Advanced Hydroponics pH plus for growth and bloom is a concentrated pH increaser for nutrient solution. The active ingredient is potassium hydroxide at a concentration of 30%, i.e. a strong caustic solution. Reach for it when your metre shows a value below your target in the finished feed - in growth and bloom, in hydroponics, in coco and in soil.

When and how to raise pH

The range in which the plant absorbs nutrients best varies according to the medium: in hydroponics and in coco, growers usually keep it roughly between 5.5 and 6.5, in soil rather between 6.0 and 7.0. Always measure the finished feed with fertilisers added, not the water itself. Dose the caustic solution drop by drop, mix the solution thoroughly between individual doses and let the metre settle before adding more. Raising the pH back up is easy; levelling out an unstable solution is less so.

Handling the caustic solution

Potassium hydroxide is a strong base and injuries to the skin and eyes can be serious. Use rubber gloves and protective goggles, do not inhale the fumes and mix in a place where there is something to rinse with. Pour the caustic solution into water, never water into the caustic solution. Keep the bottle tightly closed, out of reach of children, and do not store it next to pH minus or any other acid.

Frequently asked questions

When do I need pH plus at all?

When the finished feed comes out below the range in which you want to grow. This depends on the source water and also on how the mixed fertilisers shift the pH. You cannot tell without a metre, so it makes sense to buy pH plus together with a pH metre and calibration solutions, not on its own.

How should I handle potassium hydroxide safely?

Work in gloves and protective goggles, do not inhale the fumes and open the bottle over a stable surface. Always pour the concentrate into water, never the other way round. Dose drop by drop and mix and measure between doses. Rinse skin and clothing that have been splashed immediately with plenty of water. Close the bottle straight after use.

Can I store pH plus and pH minus next to each other?

Do not store them next to each other. One is a strong caustic solution and the other a strong acid; if they spill or leak, they will come into contact and react with each other. Keep them apart, each bottle tightly closed and ideally in its own drip tray. Rinse the measuring cup after each product before using it for the other one.
