Air ducting depends on the details - a leaky joint or the wrong reducer can reduce even a powerful fan's efficiency and add noise. This section brings together small but indispensable parts that let you connect ducting, reduce it to a different diameter, branch it out and tighten it securely.
What you will need and what it is for
- Flanges - connect ducting to a fan, filter or the wall of the box.
- Adapters (reducers) - connect two different diameters when the collars do not match.
- Couplings - firmly and tightly join two pieces of ducting in line.
- T connectors and Y connectors - branch the route into two directions.
- Cable ties - tighten flexible ducting onto the collar so air does not escape anywhere.
- Kebek disc valves - regulate and distribute incoming or outgoing air.
- Inlet grilles and plugs / end caps - protect the intake from dirt and close unused outlets.
How to choose the right part
The key is the duct diameter - the most common are 100, 125, 150 and 200 mm, and you should choose all connectors and reducers according to it. If you are running ducting through the wall of the box out into a room, a backdraft damper is useful (in stock in 100, 125 and 200 mm diameters), as it prevents air from flowing in the opposite direction. A quick clamp for ducting is ideal for a fast and tight connection between the filter and the fan.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know which diameter of parts I need?
It is based on the diameter of the collar on your fan and filter - most often 100 to 200 mm. Choose couplings, reducers and dampers exactly to this size.
What is a backdraft damper for?
It lets air through in only one direction. It prevents extracted air (and the odours with it) from flowing back into the space when the fan is off.
How do I reliably seal flexible ducting on the collar?
Use a cable tie or a quick clamp. A firm tightening prevents air leakage at the joint, which otherwise reduces extraction efficiency and increases noise.
