The hanger keeps your lighting exactly at the height your plants need right now - and, above all, keeps it safe. A poorly hung lamp or filter above your head is no joke, so with hanging systems it is worth paying attention mainly to the load capacity and how easily the height can be adjusted.
How to choose a hanger
Three things matter most - how much the hanger needs to support, how easily the height is adjusted, and what you want to hang on it. Light LED panels and smaller reflectors can be handled by practically any hanger, but for heavy combinations of lamp plus carbon filter or a powerful fan, choose a stronger system with a reserve.
Types of hanging systems
- Rope ratchets - a pair of carabiners with a cord and ratchet; you adjust the height by pulling the rope and it locks automatically. The most convenient and widespread solution, with load capacities of roughly 48 to 135 kg per pair.
- Metal chains - simple and indestructible, you change the height by links. Jack Chain 10 m is enough for hanging reflectors and filters, and you can cut off exactly as much as you need.
- Smart light lifters - motorised systems such as ThinkGrow Smart Light Lifter, which change the height remotely. A solution more suitable for larger and fully equipped grow rooms.

What load capacity do I need for a hanger?
Add up the weight of everything you will hang on the hanger and add a reserve. For a standard LED lamp, a lighter type is enough; for a combination with a filter and fan, choose 64 kg and more.
How many hangers do I need for one lamp?
Usually two - that is why rope ratchets are sold in pairs. Hanging at two points keeps the light fitting level and stable.
Can a rope ratchet hanger also be used for a carbon filter or fan?
Yes, rope ratchet systems and chains are universal. Just make sure to check the load capacity - filters and radial fans tend to be heavier than the lamp itself.
