Perlite is the name for inert white granules made from amorphous volcanic glass with a high water content, which are a common additive in soil and coco substrates, as they can perfectly aerate them and improve their structure. Its excellent retention (accumulation) properties stand out especially in hydroponics, where it represents an ideal ecological environment for the vigorous development of plants of all kinds. Growers also use perlite as a drainage layer at the bottom of flowerpots.
Our range includes Czech-made perlite Agroperlit, both in small and large packs, depending on your needs. These are complemented by products from the renowned brands Plagron and Gold Label.
An interesting fact is that perlite occurs naturally and expands significantly when it reaches a certain temperature.
How much perlite should I add to substrate?
Usually about 10 to 30% of the volume is added, depending on how airy you want the mix to be. For seedlings and cuttings that need a light medium, you can use more; for plants with higher watering needs, use less so the mix does not dry out as much.
Which perlite grade is best?
For fine sowing mixes, a finer fraction is suitable (for example 0-6 mm); for aerating coarser substrates and as drainage, coarser granules are better (2-6 mm). You will find both in our range.
Do I need to rinse perlite before use?
A quick rinse with water removes the dust released during handling - this benefits both the roots and your lungs. Otherwise, perlite is inert, so it does not change pH or nutrients.
Can perlite be reused?
Yes. After harvest, it is enough to remove root residues and rinse it - because it is inert and does not decompose, it will serve you for another season too.
