Frequently asked questions
Is the BioNova pre-fertilised substrate suitable for germination and young seedlings?
Bio Soilmix is only lightly pre-fertilised, so it will not over-fertilise young plants and is also suitable for transplanting seedlings. For sowing and germination itself, however, it is better to choose a pure sowing medium without nutrition and transplant the seedlings into Bio Soilmix once they have grown stronger.
Do I need to add fertiliser to a pre-fertilised substrate at all?
For the first one to two weeks, plants draw nutrients directly from the substrate and you do not need to add fertiliser. Once the supply is used up, switch to organic nutrition - in the case of BioNova, the Veganics range - and top up nutrients according to the growth and flowering stage.
Is BioNova Bio Soilmix also suitable for outdoor beds and greenhouses, or only for pots?
The use is universal. Thanks to perlite and organic compost, it is suitable for pots and window boxes, as well as for outdoor beds or greenhouses. Outdoors, you can also work it into existing garden soil and improve its structure.
Why choose a pre-fertilised substrate instead of ordinary soil?
The pre-fertilised mix has a balanced nutrient ratio (NPK 7-3-3 in Bio Soilmix), RHP certification and added beneficial microorganisms Bacillus amyloliquefaciens that support the root system.
