Inert Media

Inert media are materials that do not provide nutrients to plants on their own. They are designed to serve only as support for plant roots, while nutrients are supplied by water enriched with nutrients. These media are often used in hydroponic and aeroponic systems, where gardeners have full control over nutrient delivery.

The word inert means non-reactive. Inert media, or inert substrates, contain no nutrients and are most widely used in pure growing methods, especially in the popular hydroponics. They are also widely used to improve soil properties. They are sought after for their absorption and retention properties. Pests and moulds, on the other hand, do not like this "sterile" environment at all, which again adds to the appeal of these substrates.

The common denominator of inert media is their wide range of uses beyond growing and gardening.

If you grow plants in inert substrates, it is necessary to measure pH and EC values (electrical conductivity of the solution) so that you can provide plants with the optimal amount of nutrients during development, which is crucial for their vitality and healthy development from seed germination to harvest.

In this category you will find first-class inert media in the form of widely used rockwool cubes (basalt wool). This substrate will provide your plants' root system with a completely ideal balance between water and air. A выгодné large pack is also available.

We also include coconut coir, expanded clay (hydroton) or perlite among inert media.

Our TIP: At present, Atami Mapito inert hydro substrates are trending among growers!
