How vaporizers work
A vaporizer heats dried herbs (or concentrates and e-liquids, depending on the device) to a temperature below the combustion point, releasing their aromatic compounds as vapour rather than smoke. The vapour is therefore gentler and cleaner than that produced by conventional combustion. Depending on their design, devices are divided into two main groups.
- Desktop vaporizers - powerful models for home use with precise temperature control; typically Volcano and other desktop devices with a balloon or hose system
- Portable vaporizers and vape pens - compact battery-powered devices that fit in a pocket, including systems with cartridges for concentrates and e-liquids

What is the difference between a desktop and portable vaporizer?
Desktop vaporizers are more powerful, offer more precise temperature control and are designed for use at home, where they are powered from the mains. Portable models and vape pens run on a battery, fit in a pocket and are suitable for travel - at the cost of lower capacity and simpler temperature control.
How is a vaporizer cleaned and maintained?
The chamber and mouthpiece should be cleaned regularly to remove residue, so that the vapour remains clean and neutral in taste. Use suitable cleaning products and accessories; devices with cartridges require worn parts to be replaced with new ones.
Can concentrates and e-liquids be used in a vaporizer?
It depends on the type of device. Some portable vaporizers and cartridge-system pens are designed for extracts and e-liquids, while other models work with dried herbs. Before purchasing, check which material the specific vaporizer is designed for.
