EC and pH metres are especially appreciated by those who grow hydroponically. The acidity and electrical conductivity of the nutrient solution can be one of the decisive factors standing between you and a perfect harvest. You can measure the acidity of the solution or soil easily with a classic BEN test or a sophisticated digital pH metre - for example Milwaukee 55. You can measure EC, or the electrical conductivity of the solution, with a digital EC metre, such as Milwaukee 611 or ADWA AD32.
It is a good idea to care for sensitive devices so they last as long as possible. Keep the pH metre probe in storage solution, because if it dries out, it measures inaccurately. By contrast, EC metres must be kept dry; excessive moisture damages them. The devices need to be adjusted from time to time, and calibration solutions will help with that. Calibration is usually simple and definitely worthwhile. After each use, it is a good idea to clean the EC or pH metre.
TIP: Did you forget to put the pH metre in storage solution? Do not worry. Try soaking the probe in calibration solution for several hours and then adjust it again.
Temperature and humidity in the grow tent are decisive. Extreme temperatures and relative humidity, as well as fluctuations, harm plants, so it is necessary to keep both in mind. A clear thermometer and hygrometer will help you create ideal conditions for growth, and if you get a device with a probe, you do not even need to open the tent to check it.
