Coconut briquettes or blocks are a practical alternative to the classic format of coconut-based substrates packed in bags. They are suitable for outdoor and indoor plant cultivation. In this case, the coconut fibres are in a dehydrated state. This makes it easy to transport even larger quantities of substrate, which would be much harder to handle in bags in its normal state. Dehydrated coconut also offers the benefit of a practically unlimited storage period after purchase, while retaining its original properties. Only after soaking in water do the fibres swell to the declared volume. At that point, the substrate is ready for immediate use.

How do you prepare compressed coconut coir?
Pour water over the briquette or block and wait until the fibres absorb it and swell to the declared volume. Then loosen the substrate, or pour off any remaining water, and it is ready for planting. The amount of water depends on the size of the pack - for small briquettes it is litres, while for large blocks such as UGro XL it is tens of litres.
How much substrate does one briquette produce?
The rehydrated volume is stated for each product - from smaller briquettes of around 5 to 11 litres to large blocks of approximately 70 litres. The compressed format takes up only a fraction of the space when dry, so you can stock up in advance.
Does dehydrated coconut store for a long time?
Yes. In compressed and dry form it has a practically unlimited storage life and retains its original properties. The fibres only come back to life after watering, so you can stock up on packs in advance with no worries.
Is compressed coconut coir suitable for indoor and outdoor use?
Yes, after rehydration you can use it for indoor and outdoor growing just like bagged coconut. The only difference is more practical storage and transport before soaking.
