Air pumps are used to aerate the nutrient solution in the tank or to run a bubbler. The aeration pumps in our range from proven manufacturers such as BOYU or AQUAKING are easy to set up and simply plug into the mains. Particularly popular are silenced models. We also offer professional products from the British company Aquaking.
Our TIP: BubbleGen - a quiet helper that sufficiently oxygenates the nutrient solution in the tank and at the same time circulates it, is a popular alternative to circulation pumps with air stones.
You will also certainly find splitters with up to 26 outlets useful for air pumps.
Air tubing is used to connect the air motor to the air stone.
How powerful a pump do I need according to the tank volume?
Output is given in litres of air per hour. Smaller tanks of a few dozen litres are covered by models around 190 to 480 l/h (for example Hailea ACO9601 or BOYU S-2000); for larger tanks and more stones, choose more powerful motors of 1200 to 3600 l/h, and for professional operation compressors BOYU LK with output up to 6000 l/h. It is better to choose with a reserve - you can always turn it down.
Are air pumps noisy?
Cheap models may vibrate in a quiet room. If the pump runs in a tent near the bedroom, choose silenced BOYU SES variants in an aluminium housing or the BubbleGen solution, which works significantly more quietly. A vibration-damping pad also helps.
How many air stones can the pump handle?
It depends on the output and the number of outlets. Models with one outlet serve one stone; pumps with 2 and 4 outlets (for example Hailea ACO 2204 or 2206) distribute air to multiple containers. For branching to many points, use splitters and hoses.
Do I need a check valve?
Yes, we recommend it. If the pump is lower than the solution level, when switched off water could flow back through the tubing into the motor and damage it. A check valve prevents this and is a cheap safeguard.
