Tomatoes are among the most widely grown vegetables in gardens and on balconies, and the variety determines how well they grow and taste. The MoravoSeed seed range covers three basic types according to plant growth habit and growing method.
- Indeterminate tomatoes grow tall and need support and regular removal of side shoots; the reward is a plentiful harvest throughout the season - this includes early-ripening varieties as well as late types with fleshy fruits.
- Bush tomatoes have a compact habit and do not require shaping, so they are also suitable for less experienced growers.
- Balcony tomatoes such as Vilma are suitable for a window box or container and produce dozens of small fruits on one plant.
When choosing a variety, consider the ripening time - early varieties allow harvesting already in the first half of summer, while late types extend the harvest into autumn - and the fruit size, from small cherry and date tomatoes through cocktail types to giant fleshy types suitable for sauces and purées. Seeds can be sown in seed trays in advance, or directly into the soil depending on the specific variety and the local climate conditions.
