Vermiculite
Vermiculite is a natural mineral that retains moisture and nutrients in the growing medium and gradually releases them to the roots. It is suitable for seed germination, feeding, and as an additive in a mix with perlite or zeolite.

Vermiculite is a lightweight, natural mineral made up of thin layers that expand when heated and create a porous structure with a high ability to retain water and nutrients. In the growing medium, it works like a sponge - it absorbs excess moisture and gradually releases it back to the roots, thereby reducing fluctuations in moisture between waterings.
It is used mainly for seed germination and rooting seedlings, where it maintains even moisture without the risk of overwatering. It is also added to growing medium mixes, where together with perlite it improves aeration of the root ball, or it is used as an ingredient in hydroponic growing and fruit storage.
Unlike perlite, which mainly aerates and drains off excess water, vermiculite tends to retain water - in practice, the two ingredients are therefore often combined depending on whether the growing medium needs more drainage or more moisture.
We will be happy to advise you on choosing the right ratio of vermiculite and other additives for your growing medium at info@higarden.cz.
