Pre-fertilised Atami substrate

Are you looking for soil that feeds plants from the very first day? Atami pre-fertilised substrates contain a reserve of nutrients directly in the peat mix, so you can get seedlings and cuttings going without immediate additional feeding - just choose the variant according to how long you want the nutrition to last.

Not sure whether to go for the lighter lightmix or the heavily fertilised Kilomix? Write to us at info@higarden.cz and together we will choose a mix tailored to your plants.

Based in the Netherlands, Atami has been manufacturing and selling top-quality pre-fertilised substrates for more than two decades and rightly ranks among the leaders in the growing world. Whether you grow herbs or crops in a grow tent or, for example, in a garden bed, you can rely on the composition of this brand's peat mixes.

Atami caters to all growers with a balanced range of soil mixes. You have 3 variants available in 50 litre packaging, which differ mainly in the amount of fertiliser for the first weeks of the growing cycle.

The golden middle ground is Atami Bio Growmix, suitable for growing in flowerpots and in self-watering systems. These substrates ensure stable pH (6.0) and EC values in the range of 1.25 - 1.5. The nutrient content will last plants for the first few weeks, so it is worth buying basic fertilisers and supplements for soil straight away, preferably of course from Atami.

A generous dose of nutrients makes the start of the growing cycle easier, especially for beginners. That is exactly what the richly pre-fertilised Kilomix is for. Its counterpart is Janeco lightmix with nutrition for three weeks.

How do you choose between the mixes? It mainly depends on your experience and how much control you like to have over fertilising. The heavily fertilised Kilomix forgives beginners' mistakes because the plant has nutrients at hand and you do not have to mix solutions right away. Bio Growmix is organic, RHP certified and, with its airy structure and worm humus, provides basic nutrition for the first week - after that, you are in charge of fertilising. The lightest Janeco lightmix contains perlite for aeration and nutrients for roughly three weeks, so it gives the greatest freedom to precise growers who want to fine-tune nutrition themselves from the start.

The range is complemented by Worm Delight - a soil improver based on worm castings, rich in microorganisms and organic matter, which revitalises the root environment even in older substrate.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the pre-fertilisation in Atami substrate last?

It depends on the variant. Janeco lightmix counts on a nutrient reserve for roughly the first three weeks, Bio Growmix provides a base for the first week, and the richly fertilised Kilomix lasts longer. Once the reserve is used up, start supplementing with liquid fertilisers.

What pH and EC do Atami substrates have?

The mixes are set to a stable pH of around 6.0 and EC values in the range of 1.25 to 1.5. This is a range suitable for most herbs and crops without the need for further adjustments at the start.

Is Atami also suitable for self-watering systems?

Yes. Bio Growmix and other mixes with an airy structure work well in flowerpots and self-watering systems, where they retain moisture well while remaining aerated for healthy root development.

Do I need to buy fertiliser with pre-fertilised substrate?

Usually not for the first few weeks. However, once the plant has used up the reserve from the substrate, liquid fertiliser will top it up. It is practical to stay with the same brand and choose Atami nutrition, which is matched to the mixes.
