Fungal diseases and moulds are an unpleasant complication that you can largely prevent by regularly checking the condition of your plants and maintaining as cultivated a growing environment as possible. But better safe than sorry, so do not hesitate to choose from a wide range of first-class fungicides that make it possible to eliminate the threat posed by moulds and fungi causing various diseases in herbs or crops, while also significantly strengthening the natural defences of plants.
Products from renowned brands are available to you, including the Czech manufacturer AgroBio Opava and also, for example, B.A.C., Aptus or BioGarden.
Preventive or curative fungicide?
Timing is decisive. Protective products create a barrier on the plant and need to be applied before infection or at its very beginning - typically this includes contact fungicides such as AgroBio Merpan or Kumulus WG. Curative products can also tackle a disease that has already broken out. If you are not sure when to act, with fungicides prevention almost always wins.
Do biological products like Polyversum work?
Yes, but differently from chemicals. BioGarden Polyversum contains the beneficial microorganism Pythium oligandrum, which does not attack the plant, but competes with and suppresses harmful fungi and moulds. It works more preventively and continuously, so it is suitable to use it at the beginning of the season, not only as an emergency intervention.
What do fungicides help against?
The most commonly addressed diseases are powdery mildew, mildew (downy, potato, grey - botrytis) and scab. Products differ according to the crop and target disease, so always check what the given fungicide is intended for - many in the AgroBio Opava range are aimed directly at a specific crop and disease.
How often should spraying be repeated?
It depends on the product, disease pressure and weather - rain washes off the protective film. Follow the pre-harvest interval and the interval stated by the manufacturer on the label, and check plants more often during periods of high humidity.
