Hydroponics and Aeroponics
Flowers, herbs, fruit and vegetables can also be grown without soil. Hydroponics is a modern and efficient growing method in which, besides the plant itself, you only need two things – a growing medium and a nutrient solution.
Hydroponic media are usually inert, which means they do not contain the organic or inorganic substances commonly found in soil. The most commonly used media are coconut fibre, expanded clay (hydroton) and perlite. The nutrient solution then supplies all nutrients together with water to the plants in the ideal concentration. Each plant requires a different amount of nutrient solution and water. It is therefore necessary to choose the correct ratio of these substances.

Hydroponic systems can be simple or very sophisticated and extensive. So before you start with hydroponics, we recommend that you first get a clear idea of what you want to get into and on what scale. Aeroponic systems require only a minimal amount of substrate. The nutrient solution is sprayed directly into the root zone, while the plant roots hang freely downwards and have ample space to grow, as the growing container contains only a mist made up of air and nutrient solution instead of substrate. This method is most often used to grow plants in perforated pots or they are secured using flexible rings.
To make soil-free growing as easy as possible, you will also find tank cooling, submersible pumps and other aids for effective irrigation or aeration.
