Then you need to replace either the entire filter or take it apart and refill it with new carbon. In our range, you will find carbon with CTC 70 in pellet form, in packs from one kilogram up to twenty-kilogram bags.

Activated carbon is the term for carbon specially treated to have better adsorption properties - so that it binds molecules more effectively. Activated carbon for odour filters has a porous structure and a large surface area (up to 1,500 m2/g), which enables it to bind molecules of unpleasant odours moving through the air. In general, the larger the surface area, the more effectively it absorbs odours and removes chemicals in the form of gases and vapours from contaminated air.
In our range, you will find CTC 70 pellet carbon. CTC describes the internal porosity of the material and therefore the area of its surface. You can choose packs from one kilogram up to twenty-kilogram bags.
Refurbishing the filter pays off for many growers - instead of having to buy a new filter every time it stops working (which can be every six months or every year, depending on the conditions in a particular tent or room), they simply replace the filling. The filter will not work quite as well as a completely new one, but it will definitely delay the need to replace the entire filter.
The carbon is packed into the filter by the manufacturer so that there are not too many air pockets between the individual pellets. They use specialised tools that are not available to ordinary users. Replacing the carbon therefore means you do not have to pay for the whole filter again, but its efficiency will be slightly lower than that of a completely new one.
What does the CTC value mean?
CTC is a test that expresses the internal porosity of the carbon and thus the size of its active surface. A higher number means a larger area for capturing molecules, and therefore usually a higher adsorption capacity of the filling.
How do I know when the carbon in the filter is exhausted?
The most reliable sign is the return of odour even with the fan running. Lifespan is usually around six months to a year depending on humidity and operating intensity - in a more humid environment, the carbon becomes saturated more quickly.
How much carbon do I need to refurbish the filter?
This depends on the volume of the specific filter. Smaller filters can be filled from a one-kilogram pack, while for larger ones or multiple units you should choose larger packs. Pour the carbon in firmly so that as few air pockets as possible remain between the pellets.
Will a refurbished filter work like a new one?
The efficiency will be somewhat lower than with a completely new unit, because at home you will not pack the carbon as tightly as the manufacturer does with specialised tools. Even so, replacing the filling will significantly delay the purchase of a new filter.
