pH Adjustment
When the pH of the nutrient solution shifts, the plant stops taking up some of the nutrients - even with a full fertiliser dose, you will then see a deficiency. In this section you will find products with which you can safely lower or raise the pH: organic citric acid, powdered acids and automatic stabilisers Torus Hydro.
Not sure whether you only need occasional correction, or whether it is worth stabilising the pH permanently? Write to us at info@higarden.cz and we will go through it according to your system.

Neutral water has a pH of 7. To adjust it, hydroxides and acids are used in gardening.
At low pH values, beneficial microorganisms do not survive, and their presence directly affects the health of the plant.
If the pH is too high, the plant is unable to absorb the supplied nutrients effectively and an unwanted deficiency arises with a negative impact on its health. The most natural way to lower a high pH is to use citric acid. Unlike nitric acid, it also allows fertilisers to retain their BIO properties.
Always adjust the pH so that you keep it as stable as possible at a maximum of 6.5 during the growth stage and 6.2 during the flowering stage. A properly calibrated pH metre will tell you how well you are managing to adjust the pH and thus provide plants with optimal conditions for fast and healthy development.
Notice: If you are ordering from us online, be sure to choose powdered (crystalline) acids from the General Hydroponics brand. These are the only pH reduction products you can buy through the e-shop. They only need to be mixed with water. Liquid acids (pH minus, pH plus, peroxides) - classified as corrosive substances - cannot be sent by standard carriers (PPL, Zásilkovna) for safety reasons. They can only be collected in store.
Frequently asked questions
What pH should I maintain during the growth and flowering stages?
The aim is stability in a slightly acidic range - around 6.5 during growth and around 6.2 in flowering. Within this range, the plant has the best access to individual nutrients.
How can I lower the pH while keeping fertilisers organic?
Use citric acid or the Plagron Lemon Kick product. Unlike mineral acids, they do not disrupt the organic basis of nutrition.
Why can I only buy powdered acids through the e-shop?
Liquid pH minus and pH plus are classified as corrosive substances and standard carriers do not transport them. General Hydroponics powdered (crystalline) acids do not have this problem - they only need to be mixed with water; otherwise, the liquid versions are available for collection in store.
Do I have to monitor the pH every day?
Yes, with manual corrections the solution shifts over time. If daily measuring is holding you up, the solution is automatic stabilisers Torus Hydro perfectpH, which keep the pH in the 5.7-6.5 range by themselves.
