Air Stones

Air stones disperse air from the pump into fine bubbles and saturate the nutrient solution with oxygen - roots in hydroponics can breathe and grow better. Choose a disc, sphere or ring from Hailea or Aquaking in various diameters.

When aerating the nutrient solution in the tank, these air stones are also very helpful. They complement the circulation pump and saturate the water with nutrients with life-giving oxygen that can stimulate the development of the plant root system. They are used in hydroponics, aeroponics and bubblers...

Please choose the ideal shape and size: disc, sphere, ring, or a specific black longitudinal air stone from the Elite brand.

To connect the air pump to the air stone, use air tubing.

How to choose the size and shape of the stone

Follow the tank volume and pump output. A larger stone and a larger membrane area create more bubbles and oxygenate a larger volume of water - for a small bubbler, a sphere with a diameter of around 30 to 50 mm is enough; for a larger tank, choose discs of 100 to 200 mm or rings that spread the bubbles over a wider area. Hailea and Aquaking ceramic stones are available across this entire range.

Why oxygenate the nutrient solution at all?

Roots need oxygen for respiration just like the above-ground part of the plant. In still water, it is quickly depleted, which slows growth and opens the door to rot. An air stone disperses air into fine bubbles that dissolve more easily in water and keep the solution oxygenated - roots then grow denser and absorb nutrients more efficiently.

Which stone makes finer bubbles?

In general, finer ceramic pores create smaller bubbles, which have a larger contact area with the water and oxygenate it better. Ceramic stones disperse bubbles more finely than coarser materials.

How do you connect an air stone?

The stone is connected to the diaphragm pump (motor) with an air tube of a suitable diameter. The pump pushes air through the tube into the stone, which disperses it in the water.

How do you care for the stone?

Over time, the pores of the ceramic become clogged with deposits and the bubbles weaken. Rinse the stones occasionally and replace them according to wear - they are inexpensive consumable accessories, so replacement does not hurt.

We will be happy to help you choose the stone, air pump and tubing - write to us and we will match the aeration precisely to the volume of your tank.
