Square Plant Pots

The square base does not waste a single centimetre of space - square plant pots can be placed right next to each other, and more plants fit into the same space than in round containers. You will find sizes from small 0.24 litre pots for cuttings and seedlings up to 20-litre containers for mature plants, in both soft and rigid plastic. Suitable for soil, coco and aerated growing HERCULES.

Square pots offer truly versatile use for cultivating all imaginable types of plants, from medicinal herbs through fragrant ornamental flowers to juicy crops, in any growing medium. Their shape makes efficient use of space, so in practice they are especially suitable for growing a larger number of smaller plants close together.

Choose the required pot volume in soft or rigid plastic as needed, in a range from 0.24 to 20 litres. It should be noted that during each growing cycle the volume of the plant root system increases, so plants need to be gradually repotted into larger pots. A smart solution is the aerated square pots HERCULES, which are ideal for hydroponics and automatic systems with drip irrigation.

The square shape is also found in the two-litre hydroponic trough with drainage, designed for mats made of coco or rockwool.

Frequently asked questions about square plant pots

How large a pot should I choose for a plant?

This depends on the size of the root ball. For cuttings and pre-growing seedlings, the smallest volumes of around 0.24 to 0.5 litres are enough; young plants grow well in containers of around 3 to 7 litres, and mature crops appreciate 10 to 20 litres. As a rule, it is better to repot gradually than to plant a small plant straight into a large volume, where the roots cannot dry out the growing medium quickly enough.

Do square plant pots have drainage holes?

Yes, plastic square plant pots have holes in the base for draining excess water so the roots do not suffer from waterlogging. For cleanliness and to drain runoff, it is suitable to place a saucer underneath or grow in a trough with drainage. HERCULES aerated pots additionally oxygenate the root ball from the sides.

What is the difference between soft and rigid plastic?

Soft (thin-walled) pots are economical and practical for pre-growing and one-off cycles - the plant can be easily tapped out of them. Rigid plastic is more durable, holds its shape and lasts for many seasons, so it is worth choosing if you use the pots repeatedly.

Can square plant pots be reused?

Yes. Before the next cycle, it is enough to remove any remaining growing medium and roots and wash them, ideally with a suitable cleaning or disinfecting product, so that pests and diseases are not transferred. Rigid plastic pots will last through many growing cycles in this way.
