Adjusting water pH when growing plants is a key factor in achieving optimal growing conditions. pH affects the availability of nutrients for plants in the soil. Most plants prefer a slightly acidic to neutral pH (6.0 to 7.0), which allows efficient nutrient absorption. When growing plants in containers or hydroponics, the correct pH is even more important, because plants obtain nutrients from liquid solutions. When adjusting water pH for plant growing, it is possible to use pH regulators that either lower or raise the water pH to the required level. In addition, it is important to measure water pH regularly and make the necessary adjustments. Achieving the correct pH ensures that plants can efficiently absorb nutrients from the soil or solution, leading to better growth, higher fruit quality and overall healthier plants.

Frequently asked questions about water treatment
What water pH is ideal for growing?
Most plants absorb nutrients best at a slightly acidic pH in the range of 6.0 to 7.0. In hydroponics and inert substrates, the value is kept closer to the lower limit, in soil a little higher. You adjust pH with pH adjustment products and check it regularly with a pH metre.
What is reverse osmosis for?
A reverse osmosis unit removes calcium, chlorine and other dissolved substances from water and gives you a clean base with very low EC, on which you can precisely build your nutrient programme. It is especially appreciated by growers with hard tap water. More details in our reverse osmosis units.
Why monitor water EC?
EC shows how many dissolved salts the water contains before fertiliser is added. A high incoming EC means the plant will receive more than you planned, and there is a risk of overfeeding. Measure it with an EC metre and dilute the water with osmosis as needed.
