Frequently asked questions

How does hydroponic fertiliser differ from fertiliser for soil?

Hydroponic fertilisers are fully soluble and contain nutrients in an immediately available mineral form, because an inert medium does not provide any nutrients itself. They are usually designed not to crystallise and not to clog the pumps and distribution lines of the system.

Why are hydroponic fertilisers divided into components A and B?

Calcium in component A and sulphates and phosphates in component B would react together in concentrated form and precipitate. They are therefore stored separately and mixed only in the watering water, where they are safely diluted.

Do I need to monitor the EC and pH of the solution in hydroponics?

Yes, EC shows the total concentration of nutrients and pH affects how well plants take them up. For most plants in hydroponics, the pH value is kept roughly in the range of 5.5 to 6.5; the specific EC is stated in the dosing table of the given fertiliser.

Can hydroponic fertiliser also be used for growing in coco?

Coco behaves similarly to hydroponics, so hydroponic fertilisers work in it. For the best results, however, choose nutrition directly for coco, which takes into account that the substrate binds calcium and magnesium.
