Light determines the harvest
The light source has a major impact on indoor growing – it affects growth, yield and your energy bill. In this category you will find all types of grow lighting and accessories; depending on the type, we will direct you to the specific subcategory.
LED lighting – the first choice today
The most popular light source for indoor growing: high efficiency, little heat and full spectrum from seedlings to flowering. You will find the full range and advice on wattage in LED grow lighting – from affordable to premium brands Maxibright, SANlight, Lumatek and SunPro, including supplementary lighting and far-red. Tip: under powerful LED lights, plants often need more calcium and magnesium, which you can add with a CalMag product in the watering solution.
Lighting control and automation
Modern lights can be controlled externally. Control units and timers set the lighting duration and intensity, smooth dimming, sunrise and sunset simulation and temperature-based control – and can synchronise several lights at once. A basic requirement for any larger or smarter grow room.
HID discharge lamps – HPS, MH and CMH/LEC
A time-tested classic. HID discharge lamps: MH gives more blue light for growth, HPS warmer red light for flowering, and many discharge lamps can handle both. CMH/LEC combines efficiency with a colour close to sunlight. For a discharge lamp you need a digital or magnetic ballast.
Fluorescent lights and energy-saving CFLs
Fluorescent lights and energy-saving CFL lamps have lower output and are mainly suitable for seedlings, cuttings and mother plants.

Frequently asked questions
LED or discharge lamp?
LED has higher efficiency, less heat and full spectrum without replacing lamps; discharge lamps are cheaper to buy. Most growers choose LED today – you will find a detailed comparison in the articles below.
How much light for which area?
As a guide: 60 × 60 cm can be covered by a 100–150 W panel, 80 × 80 cm needs 240–320 W and a full 120 × 120 cm setup 480–720 W. Efficiency and coverage matter, not just watts.
Do I need control for lighting?
A timer is a must for every grow room. More advanced control units are worthwhile for powerful LEDs and multiple lights – they allow dimming and automation based on temperature.
