The role of phosphorus in a plant's life

Think of phosphorus as the main fuel for your grow room. It is a basic building block of DNA and energy molecules (ATP) that power literally every reaction in plant cells. From nutrient uptake by the roots to photosynthesis in the leaves – nothing works without the energy from phosphorus. How to recognise phosphorus problems?

Early diagnosis is the key to success. Watch your plants for these signs:

Phosphorus deficiency: It shows as slowed growth, purple to dark purple colouring of stems and veins on the underside of leaves. The root system is weak, short and almost without fine root hairs. Dark brown spots may appear on the leaves.

Excess phosphorus: An excess of this nutrient can paradoxically lead to poor growth, because it blocks zinc uptake and disrupts the overall nutrient balance.

Instructions for use and dosage

BioNova P 20 can be used as a root drench or as quick help in the form of a foliar spray. It is compatible with all substrates and growing systems.

• Root drench (root and flower stimulation): Add 1–5 ml per 10 litres of water. Ideal for support in key stages of development.
• Root drench (acute deficiency): In case of severe deficiency symptoms, use a dose of 5–10 ml per 10 litres of water.
• Foliar spray (foliar application): For an extra fast effect, mix 2.5–5 ml per 1 litre of water and apply to the leaves.

Want to get the most out of the product? Increase the dose of P 20 about a week before switching to the flowering stage.
