BioNova Cocomix Plus is a natural 100% coconut substrate of the highest quality, also suitable for vegan plant cultivation. The substrate is made from crushed and sieved coconut fibres from palms originating in Sri Lanka.

Substrate properties

The substrate is washed and buffered to pH 6.5 and supplied in recyclable plastic bags, ready for immediate use. The ideally balanced ratio of coconut fibres with different particle sizes provides plants with suitable growing conditions.

How to fertilise the substrate

Coconut substrate does not contain a reserve of nutrients, so fertilisation is required from the first watering. For cultivation in BioNova Cocomix Plus, we recommend the two-component fertiliser Coco Forte A+B, designed specifically for coconut substrates, together with PK 13-14 throughout the flowering period. Coconut tends to bind calcium and magnesium, so supplementation with Ca 15 and MgO 10 is recommended when using hard or RO water.

Frequently asked questions

Which fertiliser should be used with Cocomix Plus?

The substrate is pure coconut with no reserve of nutrients, so fertilise from the start of cultivation. We recommend the two-component Coco Forte A+B together with PK 13-14 throughout the flowering period.

What are the substrate’s pH and EC?

The substrate is washed and buffered to pH 6.5, with an initial EC of 0.2. Thanks to buffering, it maintains a stable pH in the substrate throughout the cycle.

Is it necessary to supplement calcium and magnesium when using coconut substrate?

Coconut fibres naturally bind calcium and magnesium, so especially when watering with soft or RO water, we recommend supplementing the substrate with Ca 15 and MgO 10.
