This category brings together concentrated pH adjustment products for irrigation water and nutrient solution, which you can collect only in person at the shop because they contain strong acids and hydroxides. These are the same regulators as the parcel-shipped versions, just in higher concentrations where hand-to-hand collection is worthwhile.

Why monitor pH pH determines how well a plant absorbs individual nutrients. When the solution moves outside the optimal range, some minerals become unavailable to the plant even though they are physically present in the water. For growing in soil, pH is usually kept around 6.0 to 6.5; in hydroponics and coco, it is more like 5.5 to 6.0. pH adjustment therefore belongs with every watering, hand in hand with fertilising.

pH plus or pH minus? The starting water and the fertiliser used decide:

  • pH minus (acids) - lowers the pH of hard tap water. It is usually phosphoric acid (which also supplies phosphorus for flowering) or nitric acid for the growth phase.
  • pH plus (hydroxides) - raises the pH of soft or reverse-osmosis purified water. Most often potassium hydroxide, which also supplies potassium.

How to choose a specific product Focus mainly on the concentration of the active ingredient. Weaker solutions (for example 5% Canna pH+) are forgiving and suitable for beginners, while stronger PRO versions (20 to 60%) adjust a large volume of solution in just a few drops, but require care and precise dosing. BioNova offers balanced 24.5% concentrations that make dosing easier while still supplying potassium or phosphorus. Universal Terra Aquatica pH- also buffers the solution, so the pH stays more stable for longer.

Growers in soil, coco and hydroponics will all find something suitable here - always choose the product according to your growth stage and water hardness. For correct adjustment, you cannot do without a reliable pH metre and calibration solutions.

How often should pH be adjusted? With every preparation of fresh irrigation water. In hydroponic tanks, check pH even between solution changes, because it shifts over time.

Why is it only for in-store collection? Concentrated acids and hydroxides fall into a category that carriers do not normally ship. Collecting in store also gives you the certainty of intact packaging.

Can I use pH minus for a swimming pool and for plants? No, they are different products. Growing regulators are dosed for nutrient solution and some also supply the plant with phosphorus or potassium, which pool chemicals do not address.

If I overdo the dose, what should I do? A small overshoot can be corrected with the opposite product (pH plus versus pH minus), but always dose in small steps and measure continuously - a large jump is harder to correct.

We will help you choose the right pair of pH plus and pH minus, as well as the concentration strength for your water and fertiliser - write to info@higarden.cz or stop by the shop in person.
