In this category you will find a wide selection of proven fertilisers designed for growing in coco from leading brands, such as the traditional Dutch company BioNova and many others (Plagron, Atami, Canna, BioBizz).

Growing in coco is the simplest form of hydroponics. Coco substrate contains virtually no nutrients needed for growth (it is almost inert), so most of the nutrition needs to be supplied through fertiliser. It is best to use a fertiliser designed specifically for this purpose, because it contains ingredients that plants in coco often lack (for example calcium, magnesium and iron).

In any case, we recommend growing in coco only after you have tried growing in soil, which will give you the necessary experience.

Do not miss the value sets, which include not only the basic fertilisers ideal for coco, but also important supplements (additives). Try the popular Starter Kit from Advanced Hydroponics. A great choice for an easy start... Plant nutrition from the first seeds right through to harvest time!

Base fertilisers

Quality fertilisers for growing in coco are most often two-part (A+B) at their core. BioNova Coco Forte is a unique two-part nutrient designed specifically for coco, with which our customers focused on indoor growing in buffered coco substrates have the best experience. Recommended! A+B means a great harvest also when you use the two-part fertilisers Plagron Cocos or Canna Coco A+B.

If you want to supply plants with all nutrition from just one bottle, single-part fertilisers are of course also available. For example, the single-part biomineral fertiliser for autoflowering plants BioNova AutoFlower SuperMix.

Additives and stimulators

If you want a fragrant and juicy harvest, provide your plants with complete nutrition and do not limit yourself to fertilisers alone.

Modern growing brings great results even without previous experience. Just add a few supplements to your basket.

The absolute basis in the first weeks of the growing process is a root stimulator, which ensures maximum development of the plant root system. The more roots, the more space for the uptake and absorption of nutrients that you supply to plants through fertilisers and other supplements. A popular product for root development is Power Roots from Plagron or Rhizotonic from Canna.

Just as the human body appreciates dietary supplements containing vitamins, minerals and health-promoting enzymes, minerals and specific enzymes will also be a source of vitality for your plants. More than 12 kinds of beneficial enzymes together with vitamins and desert plant extract – that is the fantastic new product called Cannazym! It is often necessary to add products with calcium and magnesium, usually called CalMag. They help not only when dealing with nutrient deficiencies, but also when preparing the substrate.

For beautiful and abundant flowers, use the power of quality flower stimulators. Specifically adjusted for coco is Atami B'Cuzz Coco Booster, but you will also achieve perfect results with Green Sensation or the classic PK 13-14 from BioNova.

As the growing process nears its end, just before harvest we recommend using products intended for flushing. These products leave only beneficial bacteria available to the plants, while safely and gently removing unwanted fertiliser residues or mineral salts.

Last but not least, it is necessary to ensure sufficient protection for the plants.

Frequently asked questions

Why does coco need special fertiliser and is regular soil fertiliser not enough?

Coco fibre binds calcium and magnesium, so plants have more difficult access to these elements. Fertilisers for coco therefore have the nutrient ratio and the proportion of calcium and magnesium adjusted precisely to this property of the substrate.

Do I need to add CalMag to coco fertiliser?

If you use a complete two-part A+B fertiliser for coco, calcium and magnesium are usually already in the formula. A separate CalMag is especially useful when watering with soft water or water treated by reverse osmosis, and at the first signs of deficiency (yellowing of young leaves).

How often should coco be watered and fed?

Coco behaves like hydroponics, so it is watered more often and in smaller doses than soil - the fertiliser solution is added practically with every watering. Exact dosing and EC values can be found in the dosing tables of individual brands.

Can coco substrate be used again?

Yes, after flushing and replenishing nutrients, quality coco can be used for another cycle. However, it is always a good idea to rinse the medium first with clean water to wash away salt residues from previous feeding.

Coco substrates are becoming increasingly popular and, with growing popularity, the range of special nutrition naturally grows too. If you grow in coco, we will be happy to help you quickly find your way around and choose everything for proper feeding. Send your questions to the well-known address info@higarden.cz.
