AutoPot 1Pot module - expand the system with another square 15 l pot

Do you want to add another plant to the 1Pot self-watering system? This extension module contains everything for one square 15 l pot with an AQUAvalve5 valve and 9 mm distribution. You connect it to an existing tank and grow the system to any size - for food and ornamental cultivation alike.

How the watering works

Each pot is controlled by an AQUAvalve5 valve. After connection to the tank, the valve opens the supply and lets the tray fill with water to the preset level of 20 mm - by gravity only, without pumps, mains water pressure, electricity or timers. As long as the plant has not used up the water in the tray, AQUAvalve5 does not allow replenishment, so the plant goes through a wet and dry cycle that supports healthy roots. After the tray empties, the process repeats.

Which family the module belongs to

The module belongs to the 1Pot (square, 15 l) family - square pot, square tray and square PotSock. Do not confuse it with the larger 1Pot XL (round 25 l pot, different tray). It includes a root control disc (copper layer, gold side up, prevents root escape) and a marix disc (prevents substrate escape) - two different discs, replace them after each harvest.

Recommended substrates

The system always requires a freely draining substrate. Mixtures in a 50 % / 50 % ratio have proven effective: soil and perlite, soil and expanded clay, coconut fibre and perlite, coconut and expanded clay, or Rockwool and expanded clay. If you use expanded clay, rinse the pebbles first - some types are not pH stable. Before placing the pot into the tray, clean the bottom and sides of substrate; this will maintain the correct function of the valve.

Tank setup and start-up

Place the tank at least 150 mm above the highest AQUAvalve. If the nutrient solution level drops to 1/3 of the contents, top it up and never let the tank dry out completely. After planting, water the plant and let it root for 7-10 days, only then start the system.

Mineral fertilisers - and why not organic with 1Pot

For the best results, the manufacturer recommends mineral fertilisers for the 1Pot system - operation is simplest with them and practically maintenance-free. Organic fertilisers are not recommended for the base 1Pot: they tend to settle and clog the narrow 9 mm distribution. (This is different from the larger 1Pot XL and XXL systems, where organic fertiliser is possible with a water pump in the tank.) With mineral fertiliser, it is enough to mix the nutrient solution in the tank and the system takes care of the rest itself.

Expansion and accessories

The module fits into the 1Pot system. You can add a replacement pot as a 15 l 1Pot pot, fittings can be found in the 9 mm parts and 16 mm categories. For cleaner roots, choose the PotSock Square.

6 or 9 mm?

This module is in the 9 mm version with an AQUAvalve5 valve (systems from August 2020). Older systems with a blue / black-red valve run on 6 mm; 6 and 9 mm cannot be connected directly, only via a 16 mm main line with a reducer.
