AutoPot 1Pot XL is among the most economical irrigation systems in the world in terms of water consumption. One hundred round 25l pots - the largest set-up in the range - are operated by AQUAvalve valves using only gravity, without a pump, electricity or timer. The 750l Flexitank offers the longest autonomy; the distribution uses a 16 mm main line with a 9 mm reduction.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

AutoPot 1Pot XL for 100 pots - maximum commercial set-up

One hundred large plants, one 750l tank and no pump or electricity - this is the largest set-up in the range. AutoPot 1Pot XL for 100 pots is among the most economical irrigation systems in the world in terms of water consumption. One hundred modules are operated by AQUAvalve valves using only gravity, so even an installation of this size runs for weeks with minimal maintenance.

For one hundred plants, low maintenance is the main argument: no pump, electricity or timers, with flow handled by the gravitational pressure from the 750l tank and AQUAvalve valves. The tank does not need to be constantly emptied and the distribution flushed, because fertiliser does not build up in it. The larger 750l Flexitank volume also means the longest intervals between refills in the entire range.

How the irrigation works

Each module is operated by an AQUAvalve valve. After connection to the tank, the valve opens the supply and lets the tray fill with water to the preset level of 20 mm - solely by gravity, without pumps, mains pressure, electricity or timers. Until the plant uses all the water in the tray, AQUAvalve does not allow refilling. The plant therefore goes through a wet and dry cycle, which supports healthy roots; once the tray is emptied, the process repeats.

Recommended substrates

Use a freely draining substrate in the 1Pot XL at all times. The following 50/50 mixes have proven effective:

  • Mix of soil and perlite - 50/50
  • Mix of soil and expanded clay - 50/50
  • Mix of coco fibre and perlite - 50/50
  • Mix of coco fibre and expanded clay - 50/50
  • Mix of Rockwool and expanded clay - 50/50

If you use expanded clay, rinse the pebbles with water first - some types are not pH stable and may raise the pH of the water in the tray. Before placing the pot into the saucer, clean the bottom and sides of substrate off it to maintain the correct function of the AQUAvalve valve.

Tank set-up and start-up

Place the tank (750l Flexitank) at least 150 mm above the highest AQUAvalve valve. If the irrigation level drops to 1/3 of the original volume, top it up - and never let the tank dry out completely. After planting, water the plants and allow them to root for 7-10 days; only then start the system. A stronger root system will then take care of the water in the tray itself. The bottom of the 1Pot XL pot is round (unlike the square bottom of the smaller 1Pot), so you can easily rotate a large plant directly in the saucer.

Distribution for the large set-up

From the tank runs a 16 mm main line with higher flow, which branches to the individual AQUAvalve valves via a reduction from 16 to 9 mm. This ensures that water reliably reaches all pots even in a large set-up. The required 16 mm parts and reducers are included in the package.

Mineral and organic fertilisers

You can dose both mineral and organic fertilisers through the tank and distribution. With organic fertilisers, also add a water pump to the tank (run 15 min every 2 h) so that nutrients do not settle, and each time the tank is emptied flush the distribution and clean the tank, pump and filter. With mineral fertilisers, operation is the simplest and maintenance-free.

Care of the AQUAvalve valve

AQUAvalve is a simple but very effective device that requires careful handling - keep the valve and tray clean and free of obstructions. At the end of the season, wash the valve in warm soapy water (an old toothbrush helps). Push limescale out of the nozzle with a paper clip or blow it through; never clean it with a drill - you would destroy the valve.

Expansion and accessories

Over time, you can expand the system with a 1Pot XL module, add replacement pots as a 25l pot and find missing parts in the accessory box. For roots and a cleaner saucer, choose PotSock Round XL, a copper sleeve for the 25l XL pot.

Which size to choose

This set-up serves 100 plants. A smaller set-up is available as 1Pot XL for 80 pots. The body of the system is the same for all sizes; only the number of modules and the tank volume differ.

Frequently asked questions

How is a set-up with one hundred AQUAvalve valves serviced?

Each valve is a simple mechanical device - at the end of the season you wash it in warm soapy water and clean the nozzle with a paper clip, never with a drill. Spare parts and valves are available continuously in the accessory box, so servicing takes place module by module without shutting down the entire growing area.

How is the distribution for 100 modules arranged?

From the 750l tank runs a 16 mm main line with higher flow, which branches via a reduction from 16 to 9 mm to the individual AQUAvalve valves. The set-up includes the required 16 mm parts and reducers.

Is the 750l tank sufficient for 100 plants?

The 750 l volume is catalogue-defined for this maximum set-up and offers the longest autonomy in the range. Consumption increases with plant size and growth stage - top up when it drops to 1/3 and never let the tank dry out.
