AutoPot 1Pot XL module - extension with a round 25 l pot

The 1Pot XL extension module adds another round 25 l pot with an AQUAvalve5 valve and 9 mm distribution to the system. You connect it to an existing tank and grow the system to a practically unlimited size - for both food and ornamental cultivation.

How irrigation works

Each pot is controlled by an AQUAvalve5 valve. Once connected to the tank, the valve opens the supply and lets the tray fill with water to the preset level of 20 mm - solely by gravity, without pumps, mains water pressure, electricity or timers. As long as the plant has not used up the water in the tray, AQUAvalve5 will not allow replenishment, so the plant goes through a wet and dry cycle that supports healthy roots. Once the tray is empty, the process repeats.

Which family the module belongs to

The module belongs to the 1Pot XL (round, 25 l) family. The base of the pot is round (unlike the square base of the smaller 1Pot), so you can easily turn a large plant directly in the tray. 1Pot and 1Pot XL parts are not interchangeable.

Recommended substrates

The system always requires a free-draining substrate. Mixtures in a 50% / 50% ratio have proven effective: soil and perlite, soil and expanded clay, coconut fibre and perlite, coconut and expanded clay, or Rockwool and expanded clay. If you use expanded clay, rinse the pebbles first - some types are not pH-stable. Before placing the pot into the tray, clean the base and sides of substrate off it; this will maintain the correct function of the valve.

Tank setup and start-up

Place the tank at least 150 mm above the highest AQUAvalve. If the nutrient solution level drops to 1/3 of the volume, top it up and never let the tank dry out completely. After planting, water the plants and let them root for 7-10 days; only then start the system. Dose mineral and organic fertilisers through the tank and distribution; for organic fertilisers, add a water pump to the tank (run for 15 min every 2 h) and each time the tank is emptied, flush the distribution and clean the tank, pump and filter.

Care for the AQUAvalve valve

Keep the valve and tray clean and free of obstructions. At the end of the season, wash the valve in warm soapy water (an old toothbrush helps). Use a paper clip to clear limescale from the nozzle or blow it through; never clean it with a drill - you would destroy the valve.

The module belongs to the 1Pot XL system. You can add a replacement 25 l pot and XL tray separately, and PotSock Round XL will protect the roots. Fittings can be found among 9 mm parts and 16 mm parts.
