Aqua Master Tools S300 PRO 3.0 is a substrate pH metre with a thermometer and replaceable probe on a 120 cm cable. It measures pH 0.00 to 14.00 directly in moist substrate and liquid, with automatic two-point calibration.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Aqua Master Tools S300 PRO 3.0 is a pH metre with a thermometer that measures directly in moist substrate and in liquid. The probe hangs on a 120 cm cable, so you only insert the electrode into the plant and hold the device in your hand - you can reach large pots and deeper beds without twisting.

What the S300 PRO 3.0 measures

  • pH in the range 0.00 to 14.00 pH with an accuracy of ±0.1 pH,
  • temperature in the range 0 °C to 50 °C with an accuracy of ±0.5 °C,
  • pH resolution optionally 0.01 or 0.1 pH.

The S300 PRO 3.0 is a pH metre and thermometer - it does not measure conductivity, PPM or TDS. It is good to know this when choosing: for the strength of the solution in the substrate you need an EC metre, for acidity this one. The device has IP65 protection and the electrodes IP67, so rinsing it under running water will not harm it, and temperature compensation works across the full range of 0 to 50 °C. After eight minutes of inactivity, the metre switches itself off, so your batteries will not run down because of one forgotten moment on the workbench.

Why measure pH directly in the substrate

pH controls which nutrients the plant is able to take up - outside the range, even a well-mixed solution becomes unavailable. As a practical guide from experience: in soil, around 6.0 to 7.0 pH is commonly maintained, while in coco and hydroponics it is more like 5.5 to 6.5 pH. The difference between the poured irrigation solution and what is really in the root zone is often revealing.

Calibration and probe care

The S300 PRO 3.0 is supplied calibrated, so you can manage the first measurement in the pot without initial setup. Calibration is two-point and automatic: you immerse the probe in pH 4.0, then in pH 7.0, and the device takes care of the rest itself. An interval of about one month is a sensible rhythm. Use pH 4 calibration solution and pH 7 calibration solution. Return the glass pH electrode after measurement to the protective cap with KCl storage solution and do not let it dry out; rinse it with clean water before storage and after taking it out. The probe is replaceable, so when it wears out, you can buy a replacement probe for the S300 PRO and keep using the device. Always choose Aqua Master replacement probes according to the metre model they belong to - probes from different series are not interchangeable.

How to measure in substrate

The substrate must be sufficiently moist. Insert the probe into soft substrate or immerse it in the liquid being measured, wait until the reading stabilises, and only then take the reading. You can hold the measured value on the display with the HOLD button. After measuring, rinse the electrode so that fertiliser residue does not remain on it.

When to choose the S300 PRO 3.0

Choose it when you are interested in pH where the plant really encounters it - in the root zone, not just in the bucket with prepared irrigation solution. If, on the other hand, you need the strength of the solution in moist substrate, the EC metre E300 PRO 2.0 is designed for that. And if you mainly measure a mixed solution in a tank, a pocket pH pen for liquid will be more practical.

Frequently asked questions

Does the S300 PRO 3.0 also measure EC or PPM?

No. The S300 PRO 3.0 is a pH metre with a thermometer - it measures acidity and temperature of the substrate or liquid, and does not display conductivity or PPM and TDS. For the strength of the solution directly in the substrate, the substrate EC metre E300 PRO 2.0 is intended. If you need both values, expect to use two devices or a combined handheld monitor.

What pH should I keep in the substrate?

As a practical guide from experience: in soil, around 6.0 to 7.0 pH is commonly maintained, while in coco and hydroponics it is more like 5.5 to 6.5 pH. pH controls which nutrients the plant is able to take up, and outside the range, even a well-mixed solution becomes unavailable. Check the exact value according to the medium and growth stage; measure regularly rather than just once.
