Aqua Master Tools pH 4 calibration solution is an acidic calibration point for pH metres. In combination with pH 7, it helps set the metre so that it displays the pH of irrigation water or nutrient solution more reliably.

What it is used for

pH 4 is part of the common two-point calibration of pH pens, combined metres and Aqua Master Tools monitors. The second point is pH 7 calibration solution. You do not use this solution for EC metres; they require a conductivity standard, for example EC 1,413.

How to handle the solution

Aqua Master Tools emphasises one rule for pH 4: rinse the electrode thoroughly before and after each use. The probe carries a drop of whatever it was last in, and even such a residue can shift the pH in a small calibration cup - the metre is then set to a different value than the solution should have.

After pouring out some solution, close the bottle immediately and store it at 15 to 25 °C away from direct sunlight; Aqua Master Tools mentions storage in a cool, dark place for its entire range of solutions. Do not pour the decanted portion back into the bottle, even if it looks clean - pour it away.

Yes, if you close the bottle after each pouring and keep it in a cool, dark place - Aqua Master Tools states a shelf life of approximately 12 to 24 months from production for calibration solutions. The poured-out portion that has already had the electrode in it cannot be used again: after calibration, pour it away and pour fresh solution for the next measurement.
