The first two weeks decide how quickly the plant gets going - and a young plant needs something different from a mature one. Shogun 2-Pack: Propagation Pack is a two-pack of fertilisers for the cutting and seedling stage: it gives you a gentle starter feed and a root stimulator, exactly the two things dosed at this stage. It is suitable for anyone propagating cuttings or pre-growing seedlings, whether growing in soil, coco, or hydroponics.

What is in the pack

The set contains two 250 ml bottles:

• 1x Shogun Start 250 ml - gentle feed with a full spectrum of micronutrients and only half the dose of base nutrients. Calcium and boron support auxin movement and root branching, speeding up germination and root formation.
• 1x Shogun Katana Roots 250 ml - a root stimulator with boron, biotin and a cold-pressed seaweed extract, supplemented with B vitamins and amino acids. It creates strong white roots in all types of growing media and is effective even when applied as a foliar spray to revive wilting plants.

Shogun Start also contains the SmartZen biostimulant package, which increases chlorophyll production and supports early growth. Shogun states that commercial tests showed 6-8% higher yield than a fertiliser with the same formulation without SmartZen; it does not publish the methodology for this.

How to use the set

Each bottle has its own dose and mixing up the Katana is the most common mistake. Shogun Start is diluted at 4 ml per litre: at this concentration you soak propagation cubes and continue with the same solution until the plants are ready for transplanting. Katana Roots has two doses - for soaking cubes and plugs 5 ml per litre (15 minutes, then water once a week with the same solution), while for regular watering it is only 0.2 ml per litre. Never pre-mix the concentrates together - add them one after the other to measured water and stir each time.

How long will the pack last? At a dose of 4 ml per litre, 250 ml of Start makes roughly 62 litres of feed. Katana is very different: for watering (0.2 ml per litre), 250 ml makes around 1,250 litres, while for soaking (5 ml per litre) it is only about 50 litres. For one or two propagation runs in a home tent, 250 ml is a convenient size.

What is not in the set and what will be needed next

The 2-Pack covers the cutting and seedling stage, not the whole cycle - it does not include a base fertiliser. You will need one after transplanting, chosen according to the medium: for soil Samurai Terra Grow, for coco Samurai Coco A+B, for hydroponics Samurai Hydro Grow A+B. Shogun Start ends with transplanting, Katana Roots continues throughout the entire growth phase and the first three weeks of flowering. If you already know that you will run the whole cycle in soil, it makes sense to look straight at 3-Pack: TERRA Starter Pack, which contains both soil bases; both Shogun multi-packs also contain both Start and Katana Roots.

Which medium is the 2-Pack suitable for?

For all three. Shogun Start and Katana Roots are compatible with soil, coco and hydroponics, and Shogun's dosing chart lists them identically across all three lines in the cutting and seedling stage: Start 4 ml per litre, Katana Roots 5 ml per litre. You only deal with the base fertiliser line after transplanting, depending on what you are growing in.

Is the 2-Pack enough for the whole cycle?

No, and that is not its purpose. It contains starter feed and a root stimulator for the cutting and seedling stage. After transplanting you need a base fertiliser according to your medium - Samurai Terra for soil, Samurai Coco for coco, Samurai Hydro for hydroponics. Katana Roots then continues until the third week of flowering, while Shogun Start does not.

Can I use Start and Katana Roots in one watering?

Yes, in the cutting and seedling stage they are commonly combined - each does something different. Start is a weak complete fertiliser that feeds the young plant; Katana Roots is a stimulator that does not feed on its own, it only encourages the roots. However, never pre-mix the concentrates together: add them one after the other to measured water and stir each time.
