Product detailed description

Roots are the only part of the plant you cannot see - and yet they determine how many nutrients the plant can actually take up. Shogun Katana Roots is a root stimulator for cuttings, seedlings and the entire vegetative growth stage.

How Katana Roots works

The active part is the synergy of boron and biotin and a cold-pressed seaweed extract with natural hormones, B vitamins and amino acids. The roots grow strong and white in all types of substrates. Shogun states a visible increase in roots in as little as 5 days. However, Katana Roots does not replace basic nutrition - it only encourages the roots to go and get it.

Two dosages, a twenty-five-fold difference

Katana Roots is used in two ways and mixing up the dose is the most common mistake. Soak propagation cubes and plugs for 15 minutes in a solution of 5 ml per litre and then water them with the same solution once a week until the plants are ready for transplanting. By contrast, only 0.2 ml per litre is added to regular watering, during the growth phase and in the first three weeks of flowering. At a dose of 0.2 ml/l, one litre of concentrate makes approximately 5,000 litres of watering solution - at this stage even a small bottle lasts a very long time. But be careful with the soaking dose of 5 ml/l: from the same bottle you will make twenty-five times less solution, so choose the volume according to how many cuttings you are making. Available sizes range from 250 ml to 25 l.

A safety brake for wilting plants

Katana Roots has one more use: a foliar spray to revive wilting plants. However, Shogun does not state the foliar application dose anywhere, so in this case follow the instructions on the label. For watering, the figures above apply.

When to reach for Katana and when for Start

Katana Roots is suitable wherever you want rapid establishment: for cuttings, after transplanting or when the plant is recovering from stress. Shogun Start, on the other hand, supplies micronutrients and half a dose of basic nutrition, i.e. real food for a young plant. In the dosing table, the first two weeks run side by side: Katana below ground, Start above it. After transplanting, Start ends and Katana continues until flowering.

Frequently asked questions

How much Katana Roots should I dose?

For watering, 0.2 ml per litre; for soaking propagation cubes and plugs, 5 ml per litre. A higher dose for watering makes no sense - the soaking concentration is intended for 15 minutes, not for permanent watering of mature plants.

How long should I use Katana Roots?

Throughout the entire growth phase and in the first three weeks of flowering; our dosing table removes it in the 4th week of flowering. After that, the plant is building flowers, not roots.

Will Katana Roots replace fertiliser for me?

No. It is a root stimulator, not basic nutrition - it runs alongside the base of your range, not instead of it. The Katana safety data sheet does not declare any macronutrient salts; expect plant food from the base.

Exact dosing for individual ranges can be found in the Shogun dosing table.
