EC means electronically commutated.  Such motors convert alternating current into direct current and only then supply the electromagnets with it. The electronics power the motor only when needed to maintain the correct speed. They have lower consumption than AC motors and will serve you for a much longer time.

They are also easy to control and can run quietly even at lower speeds. They can also be controlled in many small steps. The fan can therefore be set practically as needed without loss of efficiency and can compensate, for example, for temperature fluctuations that also affect indoor spaces throughout the year.

What is the difference between an EC and AC motor?

An AC motor essentially runs at full speed and its output is regulated by limiting the voltage, which reduces efficiency. An EC motor has integrated electronics and is powered only as needed - the result is lower consumption, smooth speed control and a longer service life.

How do I choose the correct diameter and output?

Choose the connection diameter (most often 125, 150 or 160 mm) according to the ducting and filter. Adjust the output in m³/h to the volume of the space and the resistance of the filter - the range includes models from roughly 450 to over 1400 m³/h. If you are unsure, it is better to choose a more powerful unit and reduce the speed with a controller.

Do I need a separate controller for an EC fan?

It depends on the model. Some units run at a fixed output without regulation, while others have speed control according to temperature (TC) or according to temperature and humidity (THC) integrated. Models without regulation can be supplemented with an external controller.
