What is Living Soil?
Living Soil is a growing approach in which the soil itself plays the main role rather than fertilization. It is not a standard substrate, but a living ecosystem full of microorganisms, fungi and organic matter that work together naturally.
These organisms gradually break down nutrients and make them available to plants exactly when they are needed. As a result, there is no need for constant nutrient mixing or ongoing monitoring of values.
The result is a stable environment in which plants grow naturally, with less stress and minimal intervention from the grower.
What does a quality Living Soil contain?
- compost / worm castings
- organic fertilizers (guano, meals, minerals)
- aeration components (perlite, pumice)
- mycorrhiza and beneficial fungi (e.g. Trichoderma)
- bacteria and active microbial life
How is Living Soil prepared and used?
Living Soil can either be a ready-to-use substrate or a concentrated blend that needs to be mixed with a regular growing medium before use.
- mix the Living Soil blend with a light substrate (typically around 15–30% of the mix)
- water thoroughly to activate the soil life
- let the substrate sit briefly so the microorganisms can become active
- plant and then simply continue watering
Important:
- do not use heavily pre-fertilized substrates
- do not overfeed – the soil does the work
- maintain even moisture levels
Grow tip – Living Soil with Biobizz
To prepare a Living Soil mix using Biobizz, you will need three products. Mix them in the following recommended ratio:
- For every 80 liters of organic substrate Biobizz Light Mix
- add 15 liters of Biobizz Worm Humus
- and 5 liters of Biobizz PreMix
Mix thoroughly to obtain 100 liters of perfectly active Living Soil.
