The smallest hydroponic system for small spaces

CultiMate S (formerly sold as WaterFarm) is a compact version of the proven Terra Aquatica home hydroponic system. With a footprint of 30.5 x 30.5 cm, it fits on a windowsill, shelf or narrow balcony and takes care of one plant – herbs, chillies or smaller bush vegetables. It is an ideal first step into hydroponics.

How CultiMate S works

The plant grows in a basket filled with washed expanded clay above a tank containing nutrient solution. An air pump forces air into the pumping column; the bubbles push the solution up into the drip ring, which allows it to drip back through the expanded clay and roots. The solution is oxygenated and nutrients reach the roots continuously. The pump consumes less than 2 W.

The body is rotationally moulded in France from recycled plastic with light and UV protection, which prevents algae in the tank. The moulded plastic parts are covered by a lifetime warranty (excluding the motor and auxiliary parts).

Why choose size S

Choose size S when you have limited space and want to grow one smaller plant. The 15 L tank means a smaller footprint, but also more frequent topping up – the solution runs out faster than in the larger CultiMate L (AquaFarm) with 45 L. If you are planning a larger plant or longer maintenance intervals, choose L. Four S units can be connected using the WaterPack ACS assembly to grow several plants at once.

The system is a complete set. Purchase washed expanded clay as the growing medium and nutrient solution separately. Rinse the expanded clay with clean water before first use.

Frequently asked questions

Which growing medium should be used in CultiMate S?

Use washed expanded clay (hydroton), ideally with a fraction of around 8–16 mm. Rinse it with clean water before pouring it into the basket, so that clay and dust do not enter the 15 L tank. Expanded clay keeps the roots aerated and distributes the drip irrigation evenly.

How often do I need to top up the solution?

The smaller 15 L tank means that the solution runs out faster than in larger systems, especially with a mature plant during warm periods. Check the level regularly and top up the nutrient solution before it drops to the pumping column. If you want longer intervals, consider the larger CultiMate L with a 45 L tank.
