Hydroponic system that takes care of the roots for you

CultiMate L (formerly sold as AquaFarm) is the best-selling home hydroponic system in the Terra Aquatica range. It is designed for one mature plant - bush vegetables, chilli, tomato or herbs - and is suitable for indoors, on a balcony and in a greenhouse. The roots are constantly in an oxygenated solution, so they have permanent access to oxygen and you do not need to water daily.

How CultiMate L works

The system combines two principles. The plant sits in a basket with washed expanded clay above a reservoir with nutrient solution. An air pump forces air into the pumping column, the bubbles push the solution up into the drip ring and it lets it drip back through the expanded clay and roots. This oxygenates the solution and nutrients are supplied to the roots continuously. The pump consumption is less than 2 W.

The body is rotationally moulded in France from recycled plastic that blocks light and UV radiation - so algae do not grow in the reservoir. The moulded plastic parts come with a lifetime guarantee (this does not apply to the motor and auxiliary parts).

Why choose size L

The 45 l reservoir is the main advantage of the L over the smaller CultiMate S (WaterFarm) with 15 l: a larger solution volume means more stable pH and EC and longer intervals between topping up, so the system can cope even if care is interrupted. We supply the system as a complete set. Separately, buy washed expanded clay as the growing medium and nutrient solution. Before first use, rinse the expanded clay with clean water - this will ensure clean and reliable operation.

Frequently asked questions

What substrate belongs in CultiMate L?

The most suitable medium is washed expanded clay (hydroton) with a fraction of roughly 8-16 mm. Before pouring it into the basket, rinse it with clean water so that clay and dust do not get into the solution. Expanded clay keeps the roots aerated while also conducting drip irrigation well to the entire root ball.

What is the difference between DWC and a drip system?

DWC (deep water culture) keeps the roots directly in an oxygenated solution, while a drip system supplies nutrients from above in doses. CultiMate L combines both principles: the air pump drives the drip ring and at the same time bubbles the solution. The roots therefore have a constant supply of nutrients and oxygen without the risk of drying out.
