CultiMate L (previously sold as AquaFarm) is the best-selling home hydroponic system in the Terra Aquatica range. It is designed for one mature plant – bush vegetables, chilli, tomatoes or herbs – and is suitable for indoor growing, balconies and greenhouses. The roots are constantly immersed in an oxygenated solution, giving them continuous access to oxygen so you do not have to water daily.

How CultiMate L works

The system combines two principles. The plant sits in a basket filled with rinsed expanded clay above a tank containing nutrient solution. An air pump forces air into the pumping column; the bubbles push the solution upwards into the drip ring, which allows it to drip back through the expanded clay and roots. This oxygenates the solution, while nutrients are continuously delivered to the roots. Pump consumption is below 2 W.

The body is rotationally moulded in France from recycled plastic that blocks light and UV radiation, preventing algae from growing in the tank. The moulded plastic parts are covered by a lifetime warranty (excluding the motor and auxiliary parts).

Why choose size L

The 45 L tank is the main advantage of L over the smaller CultiMate S (WaterFarm) with 15 L: a larger volume of solution means more stable pH and EC and longer intervals between top-ups, so the system can even cope with an interruption in care. We supply the system as a complete set. Purchase rinsed expanded clay separately as the growing medium, along with nutrient solution. Rinse the expanded clay with clean water before first use to ensure clean and reliable operation.

Frequently asked questions

Which substrate should be used in CultiMate L?

Rinsed expanded clay (hydroton) with a fraction of approximately 8–16 mm is the most suitable medium. Rinse it with clean water before filling the basket to prevent clay and dust from getting into the solution. Expanded clay keeps the roots aerated while also distributing drip irrigation effectively throughout the root ball.

What is the difference between DWC and a drip system?

DWC (deep water culture) keeps the roots directly in an oxygenated solution, while a drip system delivers nutrients from above in doses. CultiMate L combines both principles: the air pump powers the drip ring while also bubbling the solution. This gives the roots a continuous supply of nutrients and oxygen without the risk of drying out.
