Hydroponics without a socket - powered by the sun

CultiMate L Solar is a version of the CultiMate L (AquaFarm) system with solar power added. Instead of mains power, the system is driven by a solar panel, so you can place it on a terrace, balcony or in a greenhouse even without an electrical connection. It is suitable for one bushy plant, exotic crops and herbs grown outdoors in the sun.

How CultiMate L Solar works

The plant grows in a basket with washed expanded clay above a reservoir with nutrient solution. An air-driven pumping column pushes the solution into the drip ring, from where it drips back through the expanded clay and roots - the solution is oxygenated and nutrients reach the roots continuously. Power is provided by a solar panel, so the system needs sufficient sunlight.

The body is rotationally moulded in France from recycled plastic with light and UV shielding, which prevents algae growth in the reservoir. The moulded plastic parts come with a lifetime guarantee (excluding the motor and auxiliary parts).

When to choose the solar version

Choose the solar version when you are growing outdoors and do not want to run an extension cable. It has the same dimensions and 45 l reservoir volume as the mains-powered CultiMate L; for indoor use with permanent access to a socket, the mains version is more practical. A smaller footprint is offered by CultiMate S (WaterFarm) with a 15 l reservoir.

Yes, that is the point. The system is powered by a solar panel, so you can place it on a balcony, terrace or in a greenhouse, even where a standard socket is not available. Sufficient sunlight during the day is required - the more direct sun it gets, the more reliably the irrigation runs.

Is the reservoir the same size as on the regular CultiMate L?

Yes, the solar version has the same dimensions of 46 x 46 x 43 cm and a 45 l reservoir volume as the mains-powered CultiMate L. It differs in the way it is powered - instead of mains power, it is driven by a solar panel. A larger reservoir means a more stable solution and longer intervals between topping up.
