Aqua Master Tools E300 PRO is a substrate EC metre with a thermometer that measures the strength of the solution directly in the root zone - in moist coco, soil and mixed feed solution. The electrode on a cable with a PIN connector remains in the pot while you hold the device in your hand, allowing you to reach into a large bag or deep container.

What the E300 PRO measures

EC indicates the concentration of dissolved salts, i.e. the strength of the solution - not the quality of the fertiliser. In coco and soil in particular, measuring directly in the substrate provides more meaningful information than measuring the feed solution in a watering can: EC in the root zone shows how much salt has actually remained in the medium.

Calibration with one solution

With the E300 PRO, you do not need to work out EC calibration from a table of values: the device has one-point automatic calibration at 1.4 EC, so you provide it with a single standard solution and it adjusts the rest itself. In practice, this means fewer opportunities to make a mistake. Calibrate approximately once a month and always with fresh EC 1.413 calibration solution from an unopened package - never return used solution to the bottle. The newer E300 PRO 2.0, on the other hand, is calibrated manually and accepts any EC liquid.

Measuring in the substrate step by step

• Plug the electrode's PIN connector into the metre.
• Rinse the electrode under running water and dry it with clean kitchen paper.
• Switch on the device and insert the probe into well-moistened, soft substrate, or immerse it in the liquid being measured.
• Wait until the value stabilises and read it. The HOLD button keeps it on the display; press it again to release it.
• Rinse the electrode with clean water again after measuring so that no salt residue remains on it.

Always measure in well-moistened substrate; the metre will not provide the correct value in dry medium. When the electrode reaches the end of its service life, replace it with a replacement EC electrode for E300 PRO and continue using the device. Always choose a replacement probe according to the specific metre model - the electrodes of the individual Aqua Master Tools series are not interchangeable.

E300 PRO or E300 PRO 2.0?

The E300 PRO is the older, simpler generation: it handles EC calibration automatically with one solution and is powered by button batteries. Choose it if you want a straightforward substrate EC metre and are happy with the fixed calibration value of 1.4 EC. E300 PRO 2.0 offers manual calibration with any EC liquid and AAA batteries - it is ideal for anyone who already has another standard at home, such as EC 12.88. If you are interested in acidity rather than solution strength in the substrate, the S300 PRO 3.0 is designed for this.

Frequently asked questions

Does the E300 PRO also measure pH?

No, the E300 PRO is an EC metre. It shows conductivity, i.e. the concentration of dissolved salts, and the temperature of the medium. It cannot measure acidity. The S300 PRO 3.0 substrate pH metre is designed for measuring pH directly in moist substrate. If you need both values in one device, choose a combined handheld monitor.

How does the E300 PRO differ from the E300 PRO 2.0?

The E300 PRO and E300 PRO 2.0 are two different devices. The E300 PRO has one-point automatic EC calibration fixed at 1.4 EC and is powered by three AG-13 button batteries; the E300 PRO 2.0 is calibrated manually with any EC liquid and runs on two AAA batteries. Aqua Master Tools replacement probes are tied to the specific metre model - do not interchange them between series.
