Aqua Master Tools P160 PRO 2.0 is a combined pen for pH, EC, PPM, TDS and temperature. It measures pH 0.00 to 14.00 and EC 0.00 to 20.00 mS/cm, PPM up to 14000 on the 700 scale, and you switch between values with one button.

Detailed information

Product detailed description

Aqua Master Tools P160 PRO 2.0 is a combined pen that measures pH, EC, PPM, TDS and the temperature of the nutrient solution in one body. Anyone who mixes irrigation water according to a chart in one set of units and checks it in another will appreciate it - you switch between values with a button and do not need to recalculate anything or reach for a second metre. It is equally suitable for water in a swimming pool, hot tub or pond.

What P160 PRO 2.0 measures

  • pH 0.00 to 14.00 pH,
  • EC 0.00 to 20.00 mS/cm,
  • TDS 0.00 to 14.00 PPT,
  • PPM 0 to 14000 PPM,
  • temperature 0 °C to 50 °C.

The wide PPM range is a practical reason to choose the P160: the pen does not stop at two thousand units, so it can handle very strong solutions and run-off too. pH determines whether the plant can actually take up nutrients - as a guide, in hydroponics and coco keep it around 5.5 to 6.5 pH, in soil rather 6.0 to 7.0 pH. EC shows the strength of the solution, that is the concentration of dissolved salts, not the quality of the fertiliser.

PPM is read according to the scale

P160 PRO 2.0 converts conductivity to PPM in the factory 700 PPM scale, which is used in Europe and Australia. It is important to know this when comparing with a foreign chart: the same EC gives a different result on the 500 scale than on the 700 scale, so as a common language EC in mS/cm is always more reliable. There is no universal conversion number between EC and PPM.

Calibration and electrode care

pH is calibrated automatically in two points, at pH 4.0 and 7.0. You calibrate EC manually with any EC calibration solution - so you are not tied to a single value and can use the standard you have at home. The solutions for the first calibration are included in the case, so you do not need to buy anything extra for them. When they run out, you can replenish them with a separate pack of pH 4, pH 7 and EC 1,413; for stronger solutions, EC 12.88 is also useful. Calibrate roughly once a month; the device itself will remind you to calibrate 30 days after the last one. The P160 PRO 2.0 electrode is of the dry-storage type, so it does not require liquid storage - before first use, however, leave it soaked in water for at least 12 hours and rinse it after each measurement. When it wears out, replace it with a replacement electrode for P160 PRO; you do not need to buy the whole pen.

When to choose P160 PRO 2.0

Choose P160 PRO 2.0 when, in addition to pH and EC, you also want to read PPM and TDS and you work with solutions where hundreds of units are not enough. It comes with a case with calibration solutions and a screwdriver, so you do not need to buy a calibration set separately and can start measuring immediately after unpacking - that is the main practical difference compared with a pen supplied on its own in a box. If pH and EC are enough for you, the P110 PRO 2.0 will be clearer and cheaper. If you only monitor acidity, the P50 PRO 2.0 pen is enough. And if you need to measure directly in moist substrate, choose a substrate metre, for example the S300 PRO 3.0 - a pen for solution is not intended for that.

Frequently asked questions

How much PPM can the P160 PRO 2.0 measure?

The PPM range is 0 to 14000 PPM and TDS 0.00 to 14.00 PPT, conversion takes place in the factory 700 PPM scale. Older Aqua Master generations (for example E60 PRO) ended at 1999 PPM, which is why a lower number is often stated for these pens - this does not apply to the P160 PRO 2.0. When comparing with foreign charts, always check which PPM scale they use.

Do I have to store the electrode in solution?

No. The P160 PRO 2.0 electrode is designed for dry storage and does not require liquid storage. Before first use, leave it soaked in water for at least 12 hours and rinse it with clean water after each measurement. Then it is enough to put the cap on. This applies to Aqua Master PRO 2.0 pens, not to classic glass probes for monitors.
