Anyone who mixes into a reservoir or runs a drip irrigation system knows the problem: a biostimulant ferments in the tank and clogs drippers. Shogun Sumo Active Boost is a flowering biostimulant made for this purpose as an emulsion concentrate - it lasts up to 14 days in the tank, even in oxygenated and aerated systems.

Sumo Boost, or Sumo Active Boost?

This is the only question you really need to deal with for this product. Both versions have exactly the same active ingredients and are used in the same way - they differ only in processing technology:

• Sumo Active Boost uses emulsion technology to prevent fermentation in tanks and clogging of drippers. It is made for active hydroponic and irrigation systems, where the solution remains in the tank for up to 14 days, and is more compatible with micro-irrigation and drippers.
• Sumo Boost (the basic version) is ideal for manual watering, where the mixed solution is used within 24 hours. It is not suitable for active hydroponic systems.

So it is your irrigation that decides, not the plant: hand watering and use within a day = basic version, tank or drip system = Active.

What Sumo Active Boost works with

The basis is triacontanol - a natural plant phytohormone - and a plant extract sustainably obtained from the South Atlantic. Triacontanol increases photosynthesis, nutrient uptake and metabolic activity. Alongside it, the product contains plant auxins, cytokinins, brassinosteroids, vitamins and amino acids. It stimulates growth, fertility, water and nutrient absorption, as well as enzyme activity, and increases the production of secondary metabolites - that is, resins and terpenes, which normally protect the plant from the external environment, together with sugars, proteins and essential oils. In practice, this means the taste and aroma of the harvest, not just its weight. Shogun states up to 10 % higher final weight; no study has been published to confirm this. The pH of the concentrate is 4.4, and the product is foam-free and residue-free.

Dosing: roots and leaves

Sumo Active Boost does both, and both applications complement each other. For watering or reservoir use, add 1 to 2 ml per litre throughout the flowering period, from the start of flowering to the pre-flush; our dosing chart runs it at 2 ml/l from the first week of flowering and reduces it to 1.5 and then 1 ml/l towards the end. For leaves, spray 2 ml per litre at the start of flowering and again after 28 days, with pH between 5 and 7. The dilution is 1 to 2 ml/l for both versions and it is applied in weeks 1 to 8 of flowering. The product can also be used to stimulate growth in wilting or underperforming plants.

What it combines with

Sumo Active Boost is a biostimulant, not a fertiliser - it does not replace the basic nutrition according to the medium and is added on top of it. Its strongest pairing is with PK Warrior 9/18: it increases its absorption and use during flowering, so they are used together, not instead of each other. In the final stage, it runs alongside Dragon Force - Shogun recommends continuing Sumo Boost even when Dragon Force replaces the flowering base and PK Warrior.

Can I spray it on leaves?

Yes, foliar application is part of the recommended procedure: 2 ml per litre at the start of flowering and again after 28 days, with solution pH 5 to 7. Root and foliar application do not exclude each other - the recommended procedure is precisely their combination: root nutrition throughout flowering and targeted foliar spraying as well.

Can I combine it with PK Warrior?

Yes, it is even recommended. Sumo Active Boost increases the absorption and use of PK Warrior 9/18 during flowering. They are not competitors with the same role - Sumo is a biostimulant, PK Warrior is a source of phosphorus and potassium - so they run side by side in the solution.
