Coconut coir is now the most widespread growing medium and has one feature that troubles growers: when you overwater it, the solution stops distributing evenly and runs down the edge of the pot. Shogun Samurai COCO Multipack is a fertiliser set for the entire cycle in coco. Its basis is two-part fertiliser Samurai Coco A+B developed directly for coconut fibre, plus six additives that are genuinely used in coco. It is an entry into the Shogun range for anyone growing in coconut peat or fibre and who does not want to put the programme together bottle by bottle.

What is in the pack

• 1x Samurai Coco A+B, 1 l Part A + 1 l Part B - two-part base nutrition for the growth and flowering stages in coco. Each component is 1 litre separately, so the base comes to a total of 2 litres in the pack.
• 1x Shogun Start 250 ml - gentle nutrition for cuttings and seedlings.
• 1x Katana Roots 250 ml - root stimulator with seaweed extract.
• 1x CalMag 250 ml - calcium and magnesium supplement.

How the set covers the cycle in coco

The bottle composition follows Shogun's dosing chart for coco, stage by stage. In cuttings and seedlings, Shogun Start (4 ml per litre) and Katana Roots for soaking cubes (5 ml per litre) are used. After transplanting, Samurai Coco A+B comes in as the base nutrition and runs through the whole cycle - in growth and in flower, only the dose changes, not the bottle. Alongside the base runs CalMag: it is a calcium and magnesium supplement intended, among other things, specifically for growers in coconut fibre during the vegetative period and especially effective in coco at high humidity. In the middle flowering stage, PK Warrior 9/18 is added - our coco chart has it at 1 ml per litre in week 4 and 0.5 ml per litre in weeks 5 and 6. Throughout flowering, Sumo Active Boost runs (2 ml per litre, 1.5 ml per litre in week 7). For the last 10 to 14 days, Dragon Force (4 ml per litre) finishes the cycle, replacing the flowering base and PK Warrior at this stage. The final week is flushed with clean water so that no salt residues remain in the crop.

What AquaZen solves in coco

Samurai Coco is the only Shogun range that, alongside SmartZen, also contains AquaZen Slow Water, and precisely because of coco. Growing substrates have a water saturation limit; once this is exceeded, the irrigation solution stops distributing evenly and moves along the edges of the pot - this is called false drainage. In such a pot, it is not possible to control the conductivity of the solution, and the plant can therefore be pushed into a highly generative mode, which reduces the crop. With AquaZen, the fertiliser penetrates the substrate better, the water content is more even, and nutrients are distributed sideways as well. The result is less waste, better root development and a higher potential for nutrient uptake.

Alongside AquaZen, Samurai Coco also carries the SmartZen biostimulant package, which increases the efficiency of photosynthesis and chlorophyll production. Shogun states that commercial tests showed 6-8% higher yield than a fertiliser with the same NPK formulation without SmartZen, and on its website it speaks of yields up to 8% higher. It does not publish the methodology for this.

COCO Multipack or TERRA Multipack?

The medium decides - the additives are the same in both sets. This set belongs in coco: its Samurai Coco A+B base also includes AquaZen and runs through growth and flowering in one bottle. For soil, choose Samurai TERRA Multipack, where instead of one two-part base there are two single-part bases - one for growth, the other for flowering, each 1 litre. If you are growing hydroponically, neither set is for you: Shogun has its own range for that, which you put together bottle by bottle.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a separate flowering base with Samurai Coco A+B?

No. Samurai Coco A+B is base nutrition for both the growth and flowering stages - it runs through the whole cycle and only the dose changes, not the bottle. According to our dosing chart, it is dosed higher in flower than in growth and is discontinued about two weeks before harvest. This differs from the Terra range, where Grow and Bloom are two separate bottles.

Why is CalMag included in the set if the base is complete?

Because coco has its own requirements. CalMag is a calcium and magnesium supplement intended, among other things, for growers in coconut fibre during the vegetative period and especially effective in coco at high humidity. It is dosed at 0 to 1 ml per litre in the feed; our coco chart has 1 ml per litre in soft water, 0 to 0.5 ml per litre in hard water.

What should be bought separately with the set?

The basic programme from seedling to harvest is covered by the set, but the enzyme is not included. Shogun Zenzym breaks down dead root matter and is dosed at 2.5 ml per litre into the nutrient solution throughout growth and flowering, right up to the final flush. In coco, where watering is frequent and root mass renews quickly, it makes sense to add it; the set works without it as well.
