What LED grow lighting is and who it is for

LED lights now form the backbone of most home and commercial grow rooms. Compared with discharge lamps (HPS/CMH), they deliver more usable light per watt, heat the tent less, and offer a full spectrum suitable from propagation through growth to flowering. They are suitable for every tent and grow box – from a small propagator to a full grow room.

How to choose output by area

The decisive factor is not wattage, but how much light falls evenly across your area. As a guide:

  • 60 × 60 cm – a quality panel around 100–150 W
  • 80 × 80 cm – roughly 240–320 W
  • 100 × 100 to 120 × 120 cm – a setup of 480–720 W

Look at efficiency (µmol/J) and light uniformity across the whole area; exact PPF values and the recommended hanging height are listed for each specific light.

Main light or supplementary lighting

Most growers choose a main light for the whole crop. Increasingly, this is supplemented with under-canopy lighting – under-canopy panels light the leaves that the main light does not reach, and the far-red spectrum supports flower set and ripening.

Which LED brands you will find with us

  • Maxibright – the most in-demand LED in our range. The Varidrive series offers a dimmable controller and a reliable balance of performance and price.
  • SANlight and Lumatek – premium top-tier brands (SANlight EVO and STIXX, Lumatek ZEUS and ATTIS) focused on maximum efficiency and service life for demanding and commercial grow rooms.
  • AC Infinity – a fast-growing brand with smart control; it matches perfectly with their tents and ventilation.
  • SunPro – full-spectrum LED with an excellent price-to-performance ratio; the MAMASUN and HITTER 720W models reach an efficiency of 2.6 µmol/J.
  • FAVEN – premium under-canopy and far-red (Chroma range) with adjustable spectrum and a separate far-red channel.
  • TLED – energy-saving tubular LED for supplementary lighting of propagators, seedlings and cuttings.

We are continually expanding the range – Vivosun is also being added, and you can currently find it under grow tents.

Control and dimming

It is worth controlling powerful LED externally – via control units and timers you can set the lighting period, smooth dimming and temperature-based automation, and synchronise several lights at once.

Frequently asked questions

How many watts of LED do I need for a tent?

By area: 100–150 W is enough for 60 × 60 cm, for 80 × 80 cm count on 240–320 W, and a full 120 × 120 cm needs 480–720 W. Efficiency and coverage always matter, not just wattage.

Is LED better than a discharge lamp?

LED has higher efficiency, less heat and a full spectrum without replacing lamps. Discharge lamps remain cheaper to buy; you will find a detailed comparison in the articles below.

How high should the light be hung?

It depends on the output and the stage – manufacturers state the recommended height for each model. Too close risks scorching, too high means losing intensity.

What are under-canopy and far-red?

Under-canopy are panels for the lower layer of the crop; the far-red spectrum speeds up the transition to flowering and supports ripening. Both are an addition to the main light, not a replacement.
