To enjoy the sight of lush blooms adorning your plants, you need a lighting source during the flowering period with a dominant share of red and yellow light.

This red and yellow light is emitted in sufficient measure by high-pressure sodium lamps (HPS), which you can buy either purely for the flowering stage or in the popular combined version suitable for flowering and growth. You can also opt for more modern CMH lamps, suitable for the entire growth cycle.

You can tell what colour the emitted light will have by the colour temperature (given in Kelvin). Red and yellow light is described as a lower temperature, approximately up to 2500K.

When choosing, you can also follow the PAR values (Photosynthetically active radiation, or "photosynthetically active radiation") expressing the amount of emitted light that plants can actually use for photosynthesis. In this respect, high-performance lamps with a double base, referred to as double ended (DE), are exceptional. 

Double-ended lamps are great for ambitious professionals and large spaces. In tents, the light intensity and the heat they emit can be too much and may rather harm the plants. Most home growers use classic screw-in lamps instead.
