Discharge Lamps for Flowering

To enjoy the sight of the lush flowers adorning your plants, you need a light source with a dominant proportion of red and yellow light during the flowering period.

This red and yellow light is emitted in sufficient quantities by high-pressure sodium HID lamps (HPS), which you can purchase either specifically for the flowering phase or in the popular combined version suitable for flowering and growth. You can also opt for the more modern CMH HID lamps, suitable for the entire growth cycle.

You can determine the colour of the emitted light by its colour temperature (given in Kelvin). Red and yellow light is described as a lower temperature, approximately up to 2500 K.

When choosing, you can also use the PAR values (Photosynthetically active radiation, or "photosynthetically active radiation") indicating the amount of emitted light that plants can actually use for photosynthesis. In this respect, high-performance HID lamps with double-ended bases, known as double ended (DE). 

Double-ended HID lamps are excellent for ambitious professionals and large spaces. In grow tents, the intensity of the light and heat they emit may be excessive and could harm plants. Most home growers tend to use conventional screw-in HID lamps instead.
