The Bluelab Pulse Multimedia EC/MC metre measures nutrient solution strength, moisture, and temperature directly in the root zone - regardless of the substrate you are growing in. Instead of taking a solution sample, you insert the robust stainless steel probe straight into the medium and instantly see how your plant is doing.

What Pulse measures and why

Pulse combines three measurements into one probe:

  • EC (conductivity) 0 - 15 - concentration of nutrients available to the plant directly in the root zone (accuracy ±0.1 EC up to 6.0; ±0.2 EC in the range 6.1 - 15.0).
  • Moisture 5 - 70 % (MCvol) - helps you adjust irrigation cycles, save water, and reduce the risk of root infection from overly wet media (accuracy ±5 %).
  • Temperature 5 - 40 °C - reveals temperature fluctuations that affect root function (accuracy ±1 °C).

The probe is 200 mm (8") long, made of stainless steel, so it reaches deep and withstands typical handling in the grow room. The active measuring zone is the last 50 mm of the tip; the recommended minimum container size is 2 litres.

Blink function and Pulse app

With the Blink function, you set one of your best plants as a reference and then immediately see for others, colour-coded (green/red), whether they are within range or outside it - a quick check without lengthy number reading. The metre connects via Bluetooth to the Pulse app, where you can make notes on plants and measurements, save, export, and compare data; the internal memory stores up to 2000 measurements. This way, you gradually discover what drives the success of your strongest plants.

When to choose Pulse

Pulse is suitable wherever you want to know what is happening directly in the substrate and roots - in coco, soil, and mineral media. If you need to measure pH or EC in a nutrient tank, a classic tank EC metre or a combined metre is more suitable. You mix the nutrient solution from fertilisers.

In which substrates does Pulse work?

Pulse is designed as a multimedia metre - it measures EC, moisture, and temperature in various growing substrates (coco, soil, mineral media) and directly in nutrient solution. Thanks to the sturdy 200 mm stainless steel probe, you reach the root zone regardless of the medium. The recommended minimum container size is 2 litres.

Do I need to calibrate Pulse?

For regular measurement, no - Pulse works straight out of the box in basic mode. For more precise irrigation control, optional calibration to the maximum water capacity of your substrate is available (advanced mode). This is not a mandatory probe calibration like with glass pH metres.

What is the Blink function for?

Blink lets you set the most vigorous plant as a reference. For other plants, the metre then shows colour-coded feedback whether they are within or outside the reference values - saving you from lengthy number comparisons.
