Calibration
The instrument is factory-calibrated. Calibration is recommended after every ten measurements to maintain maximum accuracy; in practice, longer intervals may also be selected. A calibration solution with an EC of 2.8 is used for calibration.
1. Immerse the electrode in the calibration solution.
2. Switch on the instrument and hold down the “CAL” button until “CAL” appears on the display. A flashing value of 2.8 will appear on the display.
3. Wait until the instrument beeps and the display stops flashing. Calibration is now complete. You can interrupt the calibration process at any time by pressing the “ON/OFF-READ button.

Rinse the electrode with clean water before taking another measurement.

Measuring
1. Remove the electrode cover.
2. Switch on the instrument using the “ON/OFF-READ” button. The display will flash.
3. Immerse the electrode in the solution being measured and gently shake off any bubbles on the electrodes.
4. Wait until the display stops flashing and the instrument beeps. You can now read the value. The instrument must be switched off and on again for the next measurement.
5. The electrodes must be thoroughly rinsed and dried before and after every measurement. Before storing the instrument for a longer period, leave the electrode immersed in distilled water for 15-30 minutes.

Handling the instrument
Do not store the instrument without the protective electrode cover – this will extend its service life. The instrument is not designed to be fully immersed. If, for example, the instrument falls into the solution being measured, remove it immediately, switch it off and dry it thoroughly. Do not expose the instrument to high temperatures or leave it in direct sunlight.

Maintenance
Rinse the electrode with clean water after every measurement. This maintains the accuracy of the instrument and prevents salt deposits from forming on the electrodes. If you have doubts about the measurement accuracy, test the instrument using a calibration solution. If there is a deviation, perform calibration. If the low battery symbol appears, approximately two hours of operation remain, but the accuracy of the instrument may already be affected.

Error message
If “Err” appears on the display during calibration, this means that you have used an incorrect calibration solution. Make sure that you are using the correct solution. If “Err” appears during calibration or measurement, this means that the instrument cannot measure a stable value. This may be caused, for example, by a strong electromagnetic field in the immediate vicinity. To exit the error message, press “read”. If “---” appears on the display during measurement, this means that the measurement is outside the instrument’s range. The solution being measured is therefore too concentrated, or the temperature is outside the range. Rinse the electrodes with clean water and take measurements within the range of 10ms(EC) and between 0 and 50 °C. If the °C symbol appears in the bottom-right corner of the display, the temperature compensation system is not working correctly. The instrument is designed for 25 °C, at which it measures most accurately.
