Growing Media Mills
Substrates serve as a medium for cultivating every imaginable type of plant. You can choose from well-known brands such as BioNova, Plagron, Canna, BioBizz, Atami and others. We recommend combining substrates and fertilisers from the same manufacturers. Do not hesitate to consult us. Just call or write to info@higarden.cz.

In general, we distinguish several types of substrates or growing media. Their natural properties are deliberately combined by many products in our range, achieving the desired synergy.

Soil
A brown loose mix, which at first glance resembles soil, is made from various types of peat and peat blends. Individual products differ mainly in the proportion of nutrients added to the peat. You can therefore choose from a range of lightly (LightMixes), medium and heavily pre-fertilised substrates. Using soil-based substrates with a peat base requires less experience than working with other types, which are primarily suitable for hydroponics. Do not forget to choose a suitable fertiliser for soil. In the case of heavily pre-fertilised substrates, you can do without fertiliser for the growth phase. Additives are also suitable, as when using soil substrates we encounter pests or diseases more often than is the case with the growing media for hydroponic cultivation listed below.
With coconut substrate, work is similar to soil, but the work is cleaner and, compared with soil, this growing medium does not make as much mess. Crushed coconut fibres, obtained by isolating, cleaning and further processing the outer husk of the coconut, stand out for their ability to combine a high proportion of water and air. They therefore form an increasingly popular inert medium used especially in hydroponic systems. Be sure to use a special fertiliser designed specifically for coconut.
This growing medium made from expanded clay ensures that the roots have a sufficient supply of air. It is a highly clean and porous substrate with filtering properties. It resists odours and germs very well, which are often responsible for various diseases in plants.
Volcanic glass has given rise to a white granular material with a high water content that aerates the substrate perfectly. Perlite stimulates root growth and allows cuttings to root quickly. This very ecological medium with retention properties has a wide range of uses and is massively used especially in hydroponics.
