What is "living soil"?

Living soil, or "Living Soil", is a concept that mimics natural ecosystems. It is a substrate containing a complex community of beneficial bacteria, fungi (including mycorrhizae), protozoa and other microfauna. These microscopic helpers form the so-called "soil food web", which continuously breaks down organic matter and minerals in the substrate and converts them into nutrients readily available to plant roots. Your plants can therefore take exactly what they need, and when they need it.

How to use it – step-by-step guide

Proper preparation is key to activating the full potential of this concentrate. Follow these steps:

  1. Mixing: Mix the concentrate in a 1:1 ratio with a less nutrient-rich substrate. It is ideal to use, for example, a light substrate such as Light-Mix, coconut fibre or unfertilised peat. From 50 litres of concentrate and 50 litres of base substrate, you will obtain 100 litres of final living soil.
  2. Maturing (so-called "cooking"): After mixing, lightly moisten the blend so that it feels like a wrung-out sponge. Then store it for 2 to 4 weeks in a warm and dark place (e.g. in a sealed bag or container). During this time, microbial life is activated, nutrients stabilise and the soil "matures".
  3. Planting and watering: After the maturing period, your living soil is ready to use. For watering, it is essential to use chlorine-free water (filtered, reverse osmosis, or tap water left to stand for at least 24 hours) so as not to damage beneficial microorganisms. Thanks to the substrate's natural buffering capacity, it is not necessary to adjust the pH of the watering water.

Detailed composition

The rich and complex composition guarantees top quality and excellent results. Each ingredient has its irreplaceable role.

  • Base: A blend of high-quality peat (H3-H6), coconut fibre and perlite (0-5 mm) ensures ideal structure, aeration and water retention.
  • Organic nutrients: A powerful combination including worm castings, bat guano, seaweed meal and alfalfa meal provides plants with a long-term supply of nutrients.
  • Minerals and additives: Basalt meal, calcium carbonate and magnesium lime enrich the substrate with a full range of trace elements and help stabilise pH.
  • Microbial life: The substrate is inoculated with an effective blend of beneficial bacteria, protozoa and mycorrhizal fungi that kick-start the soil food web.
