Product detailed description

Metrop MAM8 is a concentrated fertiliser for mother plants and cuttings (NPK 20-20-8). The manufacturer labels it only as "MAM", but in the NPK range the nickname "MAM8" has become established according to the last number in the formula - and that is how most growers look for it too. It is for those who keep mothers and need to keep them in good condition during frequent cutting removal.

Why for mother plants

A mother under constant cutting removal needs a different nutrient ratio than a flowering plant - MAM8 has balanced nitrogen and phosphorus (20-20) and intentionally lower potassium (8), so that the formation of male or hermaphroditic traits is not encouraged in cuttings. In addition, it contains 27 % extract from the South African seaweed Ecklonia maxima (Kelpak), which helps both the mother and the cuttings cope with stress from cutting. Trace elements chelated with EDTA are absorbed quickly by the plant, so at the same EC it receives more nutrition.

Dosing and use

MAM8 is fully soluble and suitable for soil, coco and hydroponics. In soil and coco, dose 50 ml per 100 l of water; in hydroponics and rockwool, 75 ml per 100 l (mothers here need feeding up to 6 times a day). At least once a week add calcium Metrop Calgreen at a dose of 20 ml/100 l. The recommended medium pH is 5.4-6.2. Due to its thick consistency, dose with a measuring cup; one litre yields roughly 2,000 litres of nutrient solution.

What to combine MAM8 with

The mother plant programme includes the root Metrop Root+, the amino stimulant Metrop AminoXtrem Bloom and, for a clean root zone, the enzymes Metrop Enzymes. Always add Calgreen to the tank last, into slightly acidified water (mix pH up to 6.5).

Parameters

NPK 20-20-8 (+ trace elements). Nitrogen (N) 20 %, phosphorus (P2O5) 20 %, potassium (K2O) 8 %, magnesium (MgO) 1.7 %. Kelpak (Ecklonia maxima extract) 27 %. Iron (EDTA) 1.75 %, zinc (EDTA) 0.9 % and other trace elements (manganese, copper, boron and molybdenum). pH of 10% solution 5.0. Pack sizes 250 ml, 1 l, 5 l. Shake before use, store in the dark and protect from frost.

Frequently asked questions

Are MAM and MAM8 the same?

Yes. The manufacturer Metrop officially calls the product "MAM"; the designation "MAM8" is the established nickname based on the NPK formula 20-20-8. It is one and the same product for mother plants, just under two names.

Why does MAM8 have such low potassium?

The low proportion of potassium (8 %) is intentional. For mother plants and cuttings, it helps prevent the formation of male and hermaphroditic traits, while balanced nitrogen and phosphorus keep the mother in stable vegetative growth and give the cuttings energy.

What should MAM8 be combined with for mothers?

Add Calgreen to MAM8 at least once a week (20 ml/100 l) for calcium, and in the mother plant programme use Root+ and AminoXtrem. Keep the medium pH at 5.4-6.2 and add Calgreen to the tank last so that the calcium does not react with the phosphorus.

Exact dosing for individual stages can be found in the Metrop dosing chart.
